why do we care so much about other planets? the reason is that the earth is suffering many troubles. these troubles include: global warming, air pollution, water pollution, the population is quickly increasing, soil deterioration and decreasing natural resoures. the environment is not as good as it once was. all the troubles mentioned above are warnings us that we should pay more attention to the environment, and take care of our mother-earth. don’t make it suffer any more troubles. the reason is simple, we have only one earth. why not cherish it and make it more beautiful.

even mars is the most similar to the earth in the solar system, scientists have said that outer-space is not fit for human beings to live in at the moment. because there is not enough of the necessary thing that we need in space. we can’t find the basic thing-water. on other planets, so we should assume the attitude, “looking for a horse while riding a donkey, but not looking for a horse while discarding a donkey.” only remember that we have one earth. it is our duty to protect and cherish it.

in 1990, nasa launched a telescope called “hubble” to the orbit of earth. without the affect of atmosphere, we can see the stars far away about 200 hundred million light-years. it is the farthest area we can see so far in the universe. people learnt a lot with the telescope, and nasa plans to launch a new telescope to space to take the place of “hubble”. it is more modern. we can see longer distance with it. we hope that one day we can know all the secrets about the universe.

first we have to see that swift does not even take gullver seriously. for instance, his name sounds much like gullible, which suggests that he will believe anything. also, when he first sees the yahoos and they throw excrement on him, he responds by doing the same in return until they run away. he says, "i must needs discover some more rational being," even though as a human he is already the most rational being there is. this is why swift refers to erasmus darwins discovery of the origin of the species and the voyage of the beagle-to show how gulliver knows that people are at the top of the food chain. but if lemule gulliver is satirized, so are the houyhnhnms, whose voices sound like the call of castrati. they walk on two 8 / 27

legs instead of four, and seem to be much like people. as gulliver says, "it was with the utmost astonishment that i witnessed these creatures playing the flute and dancing a vienese waltz. to my mind, they seemed like the greatest humans ever seen in court, even more dextrous than the lord edmund burke" . as this quote demonstrates, gulliver is terribly impressed, but his admiration for the houyhnhnms is short-lived because they are so prideful. for instance, the leader of the houyhnhnms claims that he has read all the works of charles dickens, and that he can singlehandedly recite the names of all the kings and queens of england up to george ii. swift subtly shows that this houyhnhnms pride is misplaced when, in the middle of the intellectual competition, he forgets the name of queen elizabeths husband.

swifts satire of the houyhnhnms comes out in other ways as well. one of the most memorable scenes is when the dapple grey mare attempts to woo the horse that guenivre has brought with him to the island. first she acts flirtatiously, parading around the bewildered horse. but when this does not have the desired effect, she gets another idea: "as i watched in amazement from my perch in the top of a tree, the sorrel nag 9 / 27

dashed off and returned with a yahoo on her back who was yet more monstrous than mr. pope being fitted by a clothier. she dropped this creature before my nag as if offering up a sacrifice. my horse sniffed the creature and turned away." it might seem that we should take this scene seriously as a failed attempt at courtship, and that consequently we should see the grey mare as an unrequited lover. but it makes more sense if we see that swift is being satiric here: it is the female houyhnhnm who makes the move, which would not have happened in eighteenth-century england. the houyhnhm is being prideful, and it is that pride that makes him unable to impress gullivers horse. gulliver imagines the horse saying, sblood, the notion of creating the bare backed beast with an animal who had held mr. pope on her back makes me queezy .

a final indication that the houyhnmns are not meant to be taken seriously occurs when the leader of the houynhms visits lilliput, where he visits the french royal society. he goes into a room in which a scientist is trying to turn wine into water (itself a prideful act that refers to the marriage at gallilee). the scientist has been working hard at the experiment for many years without success, when the houyhnmn arrives and 10 / 27

immediately knows that to do: "the creature no sooner stepped through the doorway than he struck upon a plan. slurping up all the wine in sight, he quickly made water in a bucket that sat near the door" .

he has accomplished the scientists goal, but the scientist is not happy, for his livelihood has now been destroyed. swifts clear implication is that even though the houyhnhmns are smart, they do not know how to use that knowledge for the benefit of society, only for their own prideful agrandizement.

throughout gullivers travels, the houyhnhms are shown to be an ideal gone wrong. though their intent might have been good, they don't know how to do what they want to do because they are filled with pride. they mislead gulliver and they even mislead themselves. the satire on them is particularly well explained by the new born houyhnhm who, having just been born, exclaims, "with this sort of entrance, what must i expect from the rest of my life!" .

式有两种：有声语言和形体语言，而细腻系统的有声语言是人类特有的语言形式，也是人与人交往的最基本的手段。但是，在现实生活中，在某些特定的情况下，有声语言的时间性和抽象性的弱点就会暴露出来，此时人类就要借住其他辅助手段进行交际。而我们知道的形体语言就是人类惯用的形式之一。

在初中英语教学中，有声语言是教师从事教学，培养学生们语感的主要手段。但是往往外来语的陌生的语音，特殊的语法，会使小学生感到与母语巨大的差异，从而在内心产生排斥。因此导致在记忆和理解上的多种学习困难。如果这种困难一点点的堆积到一起，就会挫伤孩子们学习的积极性。其实，在教学中采用形体语言教学就能解决这些困难了。例如：在学习英文26个字母时，我就采用了形体语言这种教学方式。往往教师们会有同感，在学习英文字母时课堂会很沉闷，学生的积极性差。所以我吸取了这些经验教训。再进行这个课题时，充分调动活跃的课堂气氛，使整堂课处于兴奋状态，我教学生们用手势拼出字母的形状，加深他们对字母的认读。在课堂活动中，启发学生动脑筋，动手脚用自己的肢体拼出26个英文字母的形状，学生们各动其脑发挥其能，很快就能掌握。再让他们加上特定的表情，这样学起来既快、又有兴趣。再者，我根据每个字母的形状，编了一个顺口溜。这种方法符合孩子学习的兴趣所在，又容易记忆。例如：学习字母abcde等时，我就让孩子唱出儿歌：“尖角a，双圆b，半圆c，馒头d，倒山e”。通过几遍的练习，充分调动学生的情绪，12 / 27

（二）形体语言等其他手段的运用，丰富了教学方法和手段，打破了单纯讲课的授课模式，多样化的教学方法可以最大程度的吸引学生的注意力。而学生参与表演示范活动体现出其主体性作用。（三）形体语言辅助教学更适合低龄学生学习的心理，容易引起他们的共鸣，激发他们的兴趣。所以，特别是在七年级外语教学中，有意识有针对性的使用形体语言会行之有效。

二、提高英语课堂教学效果浅议。新课标明确强调要关注每个学生的情感，激发他们的学习兴趣，增强实践能力，培养创新精神。在新课程度教改实验中教师要尽快适应新角色,突出新技术理念,运用新教材,提高课堂教学效果.。新课标是教师备课的指导性文件,只有熟悉课标,才能把握课改的教学方向,备课才能明确教学目标,课堂上才能有效地组织教学。钻研教材应做到三个字:“懂、透、化”。“懂”就是对教材的设计思路，对课本的主要内容，每个知识点都要弄明白，做到传授知识正确；“透”，就是不仅要懂教材，而且要做到熟悉，动用灵巧、自如；“化”，就是指教师的教法，要与教材的灵活性、开放性、科学性融为一体。新课标呼唤着教师角色的转换，在教学过

She killed the two bad witches in Oz; she helped the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion to go to the Emerald City to find the Wizard and get what they want. She solved problems when they met difficulties. It’s really not easy for such a little girl.

We also learn that teamwork is important for us. When we are in trouble, we can ask our friends for help, and also, when our friends need help, we should go and help them.
