The morning had been a disaster. My tooth was aching, and I’d been in an argument with a friend. Her words still hurt: “The trouble with you is that you won’t put yourself in my place. Can’t you see things from my point of view?”I shook my head stubbornly---and felt the ache in my tooth. I’d thought I could hold out till my dentist came back from holiday, but the pain was really unbearable. I started calling the dentists in the phone book, but no one could see me immediately. Finally, at about lunchtime, I got lucky.

“If you e by right now,” the receptionist said, “the dentist will fit you in.”

I took my purse and keys and rushed to my car. But suddenly I began to doubt about the dentist. What kind of dentist would be so eager to treat someone at such short notice? Why wasn’t he as busy as the others?

In the dentist’s office, I sat down and looked around. I saw nothing but the bare walls and I became even more worried. The assistant noticed my nervousness and placed her warm hand over my ice-cold one.

When I told her my fears, she laughed and said, “Don’t worry. The dentist is very good.”

“How long do I have to wait for him?” I asked impatiently.

“e on, he is ing. Just lie down and relax. And enjoy the artwork,”the assistant said.

“The artwork?” I was puzzled.

The chair went back. Suddenly I smiled. There was a beautiful picture, right where I could enjoy it: on the ceiling. How considerate the dentist was! At that moment, I began to understand what my friend meant by her words.

Many Americans think of driverless cars as a technology that will revolutionize travel in cities and along state highways. But recent experiments are proving that autonomous vehicles also have the potential to improve the quality of life for millions of Americans underserved(服务不周到) by traditional modes of transportation, such as the elderly and disabled, so long as lawmakers make smart policies that pave the way for innovation(创新).

A retirement munity in San Jose, Calif., which has been transformed by a small fleet of driverless taxis, shows the potential of self-driving cars to transform people’s lives. Built by a tech start-up called Voyage, the modified Ford Fusions

are currently limited to a two-mile road, but residents are already having the benefits of these autonomous vehicles, which allow them to participate in social activities they would otherwise be unable to enjoy simply because they could not get to them.

When the trial run finally expands to 15 miles of road, these residents—whose average age is 76—will also have a convenient and reliable new way to appointments. As these cars continue to serve residents there, it is easy to understand why California is moving to simplify regulations for the industry.

In Michigan, forward-thinking policies have the potential to unlock other hidden benefits of automatic vehicles, especially for those with physical disabilities. The Michigan Disability Rights Coalition has strongly advocated for the development of this technology, saying that it could give people with disabilities greater opportunities in the workforce and enable them to lead more fulfilling, independent lives.

Many recognize that autonomous vehicles will be the future of transportation, but it is too often overlooked that this future cannot arrive fast enough for millions of Americans who are forced to depend on others for day-to-day travel. The policymakers should follow the lead of places like California and Michigan, and pass rules and regulations to unlock these hidden benefits of driverless cars.

28.What’s the attitude of most American people to the future of autonomous vehicles?

A.Curious.

B. Doubtful.

C. Indifferent.

D. Optimistic.

29.What is the modified Ford Fusion?

A.A kind of autonomous vehicle.

B. A fleet of driverless taxis.

C. A road for driverless cars.

D. A retirement munity.

30. What are examples in California and Michigan to prove?

A. Driverless cars’ disadvantages.

B. Governments’ right decisions.

C. Benefits to the aged and the disabled.

D. The regulations are forward-thinking.

31. What does the author attempt to inform us in the last paragraph?

A. The benefits of driverless cars have been fully unlocked.

B. Regulations should go hand in hand with driverless technology.

C. The concept of autonomous vehicles has been widely recognized.

D. The weak groups are often overlooked despite technology advances.

D

Parents should stop blaming themselves because there’s not a lot they can do about it. I mean the teenager problem. Whatever you do or however you choose to deal

with it, at certain time a wonderful, reasonable and helpful child will turn into a terrible animal.

I’ve seen friends deal with it in all kinds of different ways. One strict mother insisted that her son, right from a child, should stand up whenever anyone entered the room, open doors and shake hands like a gentleman. I saw him last week when I called round. Sprawling(懒散地躺) himself on the sofa in full length, he made no attempt to turn off the loud TV he was watching as I walked in, and his greeting was no more than a quick glance at me. His mother was ashamed. “I don’t know what to do with him these days,” she said. “He’s forgotten all the manners we taught him.”

He hasn’t forgotten them. He’s just decided that he’s not going to use them. She confessed(坦白) that she would like to e up behind him and throw him down from the sofa onto the floor.

Another good friend of mine let her two daughters climb all over the furniture, reach across the table, stare at me and say, “I don’t like your dress; it’s ugly.”One of the daughters has recently been driven out of school. The other has left home.

“Where did we go wrong?”her parents are now very sad. Probably nowhere much. At least, they only belong to the rest of those unfortunate parents.

32.This text is most probably written by ______.

A. A specialist in teenager studies.

B. a headmaster of a middle school

C. a parent with teenage children

D. a doctor for mental health problems

33. The underlined word “it” in the second paragraph refers to ______.

A. the change from good to bad that’s seen in a child

B. the way that parents often blame themselves

C. the opinion that a child has of his parents

D. the advice that parents want their children to follow

34. The boy on the sofa would most probably be described as ______.

A. lazy

B. quiet

C. unusual

D. rude

35. From the second example we can infer that the parents of the two daughters ______.

A. pay no attention to them

B. are too busy to look after them

C. have e to hate them

D. feel helpless to do much about them

Dear Sharon,

I learned from your post that you want to improve your Mandarin. I am quite interested in it. I am convinced that I'm fit for it. I have been learning Mandarin for many years. So I'm confident that I can help you with Mandarin.

It is evident that learning Mandarin takes time. If you want to learn it well, you are supposed to spend much time practicing Mandarin every day. As

the saying goes, practice makes perfect. Besides, you can also read some books

in Chinese, see some Chinese films and listen to some Chinese radio programs. Speaking and listening are of vital importance for language learning. In your post, you say you can teach English as a reward. By coincidence, I'm eager

to improve my English. We can contact each other by video chat every night

for half an hour in English and half an hour in Chinese.

I sincerely wish we both could make progress. I would appreciate it if

you could reply to me at your earliest convenience.

Yours Li Hua

第一部分:听力(1-20题略) 第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分) A Sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence on the environment. Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses (球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas. There are many environment-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t have to worry about resources and your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control. Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment and b uying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”. They are better replacements for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it’s free. 21. Which of the following is the author most probably in favor of? A. Motor racing in the desert. B. Cycling around a lake. C. Playing basketball in a gym. D. Swimming in a sports center. 22. What do we know about golf from the passage? A. It is popular in Portugal and Spain. B. It causes water shortages around the world. C. It needs water and electricity to keep its courses green. D. It pollutes the earth with chemicals and wastes. 23. The author uses power walking as an example mainly because _________. A. It uses fewer resources. B. It improves our health. C. It is an outdoor sport. D. It is suggested by experts. 24. The author writes the passage to _________. A. show us the function of major sports B. introduce different types of environment-friendly sports C. discuss the major influence of popular sports D. encourage us to go in for green sports B
