One day, no more days

——Thoughts or reflections on reading 《One Day》

The trick of it is to be courageous and bold and make a difference. Not change the world exactly, just the bit around you. Go out there with your double-first, your passion and work hard at...something. Change lives through art maybe. Cherish your friends, stay true to your principles, live passionately and fully and well. Experience new things. Love and be loved, if you ever get the chance.

——David Nicholls

Probably friendships between people are of limited duration, and then intimate person would have a separate one day. No one will accompany us through life, parents, spouse, children, friends, and they can only accompany us to go a section of the road. To understand this is difficult, as we don’t cherish today just like no tomorrow and love someone wholeheartedly as if she is the last person in our lives.

Just read the book, I was very unwilling to such an outcome, if Dexter had known Emma's life would be an abrupt end at age 38, he would have cherished her and the life of each other maybe different.. I know this is just my wishful thinking, even in novel, nor a person's true life, there is no “if”. So as someone wrote, splurge is similar to cherish, what Dexter splurged is exactly cherished by Emma; it is also treasured by them all. Splurge and cherish both is a kind of lifestyle, regardless of right or wrong, both shares different experience. Life itself is a miss. Regardless of how well that person treats you, whether you are cherish it or squandered, everything will be disappeared with time.

Occasional affections coming with the university’s ended, and the future of each other is so unclear. Dexter chose the game of life, to travel around the world, and flirt a great variety of girls in bed. Dream Car, alcohol and marijuana, parties and travel with him, there is no more important things than fling a timely manner. He has been the capital of such a life, not only he was handsome and talented, but also his family was superior. On the other hand, Emma chose the humble life with the ideal, work as a waitress or a teacher, while insisting creation. Her heart was proud. Outstanding, harbor dreams and always have an inexhaustible passion for the world and life, she is also proud of the capital.

Such two people, it seems that there is not too much in common. But fate puts two people tightly linked together. Whether Dexter in Rome’s school, India’s church, or in the hustle and bustle of the party, even in his girlfriend's bed, he would think of Emma, thinking if she knew

them, that will feel more interesting. He often seems arrogant in an outsider would appear in Emma's life, telling her his life about beauty wine, interesting embarrassments, happy and sad. I think Emma is like Dexter from the beginning, otherwise she won’t write him so much poetry and letters, as well as select the suitable books for him carefully. Her character should not bear such a prodigal son. Emma is smart, she knew only friendship can keep their affections long. So she would caution her to keep a distance from his vacation in Greece, restrained herself again and again in his ambiguous in.

It’s seemed that boys always mature more slowly in the relations of the same age. When Dexter hindsight to know the importance of Emma in his life, they had their way farther and farther until they break it once. Emma cried and said to him, "Dexter, I love you, deeply in love with you, this love could last forever, but I've never liked you, I'm sorry." After that, her love, romance, extramarital affairs, ideal for the delay can not be achieved; the reality let her find any. He becomes a common young host from a rising star of the television host, and ended up in unemployment. After he squandered youth and opportunity, and finally began to taste the hardships of life. He began to settle down, get married when he met Sylvie, and have children, taste the sense of living. Their lives changes but the hearts for each other's concerns are the same. Even lost touch, they often think of each other, they are predestined fate entirely.

They are reconciling in the middle-aged. Emma's ideal long overdue, and life is finally starting to see the light; Dexter began unstoppable decline, body fat, unemployed again after re-employment, divorce, it seems that he is paying for the indulgence sink of his youth. When he almost lost everything, he finally decided to seek for Emma. Emma is not prepared to accept this, after all, she was not his consolation prize, nor was always waiting for him, she has her own life, she just her friend. But her love for Dexter after all, is more than his own imagination.

They finally living together, more than a good outcome. If this time someone told me that the end of the story is Emma died in a car accident, and I certainly do not believe that such a novel would choose such a vulgar outcome. The story slowly move forward, life is trivial and dull, but full of warm and sweet. Dexter have his own business, Emma published books one after one, the future seemed full of hope. They will be happy to have a baby, watching her grow up, and they will slowly grow old hand in hand.

All stopped in the day that Emma was taken away by God. Dexter really suffered the biggest blow in life, he really lost Emma. He was so grief that even forgot cry. It seems nothing happened, until the outbreak when the first anniversary of her memorial day. He finally realized that he really lost her forever. He began to organize her possessions, to see pictures of their youth, to see her write to him; at the moment did he know how much Emma loved him. He started a new life, a new

companion, earnest lives every day; and tries to be a good husband, a good father.

Look, this is life. Not too good, but it always gave us some hope, anyway, not to despair.

Bookreview (2)

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte Is it a darkly passionate tale of love? Or should we call it a highly original gothic story? The classic novel Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is, in my opinion, a unique and gripping blend of these genres. Written in 1847, it is an epic family saga full of desire, hate, revenge and regret, focusing on the main characters of Heathcliff and Catherine. The atmospheric setting of the wild Yorkshire moors cleverly mirrors the violent emotions. When Catherine’s father adopts the starving orphan boy Heathcliff, Catherine’s brother Hindley feels deeply hurt and resentful. She, on the other hand, develops an immensely strong bond with Heathcliff, which becomes an all-consuming love. Upon her father’s death, Hindley becomes the head of the family and forces Heathcliff to assume the position of a servant. Despite loving Heathcliff, Catherine chooses to marry Edgar Linton, who is closer to her class and position in society. It is this decision which leads to heartbreak and tragedy, not only for them but for many others. Heathcliff could be described as an anti-hero with his rough manners and lack of control. Likewise, Catherine displays many flaws, but the reader can still empathize with these characters. In fact, this is the main reason why I believe this novel is so brilliant. It rings with truth. The reader may be horrified at the way that Heathcliff and Catherine behave, and yet, at the same time, the writer ensures that we never hate them because the reasons for their actions are crystal clear. The main part of the book relies on a narrator, Ellen Dean, who is a servant at Wuthering Heights and I think that this is a useful device which holds the complex plot together. However, Wuthering Heights is not what I would call an “easy read”. There is dense description and some of the dialogue is written in dialect, which can be difficult to follow. Nevertheless, I persevered and, all in all, I can highly recommend Wuthering Heights. I challenge you to remain unmoved after reading this exceptional book. hamlet book review

Hamlet and Two Heroines Hamlet is one of the most famous play that written by William Shakespeare. It is the tragedy of tragedies. This is a story about revenging ending in perishing together. After reading through the whole play, two heroines, Gertrude and Ophelia, impress me most. In Middle Ages, women were considered as appendages of men, so were Gertrude and Ophelia. They both have close bound with Hamlet, the hero, and love him deeply. However, does Hamlet love them as much as they do? It confuses me a lot. “Are you honest? Are you fair?” In front of Ophelia’s tomb, Hamlet declares that “What is he whose grief Bears such an emphasis? Whose phrase of sorrow Conjures the wand’ ring stars, and makes them stand Like wonder-wounded hearers? This is I, Hamlet the Dane”, and “I loved Ophelia, forty thousand brothers Could not with all their quantity of love Make up my sum. What wilt thou do for her?” Those words are aimed at refuting Laertes’s denouncement. It is more of a riposte than expression of love. Leartes imputes Ophelia’s death to Hamlet, exploding his grief with exaggerated tone. As soon as Hamlet hears his denouncement, he steps forward and wants to Prove that his is much more distressed than Leartes. I first recognize Hamlet and Ophelia’s relationship from the conversation among Ophelia, her brother and her father. She believes that Hamlet loves her sincerely, but she was satirized by his father, Polonius. Then she follows Polonius’s advice, rejecting Hamlet’s letters and not meeting with him, which makes a breakthrough of their relationship. It seems that Hamlet becomes insane. In order to test his insanity, Ophelia recites what her father tells her, that makes Hamlet crazier. The death of Ophelia is a tragedy. The causes of her death include several reasons. First, Hamlet becomes “insane”and “breaks faith”. What’s worse, her father is killed and the murderer is Hamlet. What kind of affection dose Hamlet hold to Ophelia? Apparently, his love is neither a brain storm nor as much as “forty thousand brothers”. Hamlet cannot consider Ophelia as a companion and he hesitates to trust her. He loves her beauty and purity, but he cannot share his very secret with her and earn her support. What’s worse, the secret told by ghost makes mother’s image ruined. As far as he considers, Ophelia’s present beauty is not a promise to future chastity. What makes him upset is his uncertainty in his inside world. A critic commented Hamlet as “the giant of thoughts, the dwarf of actions”. He has no strong motion disclosure to Ophelia. As Hamlet describes, women are flirtations and weak-minded, which become women’s sin. While, beauty makes women easier to be tempted, so beauty becomes sin. “Frailty, thy name is woman!” When Hamlet is alone, he seldom thinks of Ophelia, but frequently thinks of his mother Gertrude. However, it is not a son’s attachment and love to mother, instead, it represents anger and hate. Certainly, it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t love his mother at all. It is more like a sense of stigma.

Book Review

Book Review: They Say I Say Many College and university students often have trouble performing well in their academic writing, which is a necessary part of higher education. They cannot assert their argument critically and logically, thus making their writing less forceful and convincing. The reasons may be that cannot get helpful instruction form traditional methods which focuses on abstract principles of writing, while they themselves don’t know how to state their argument appropriately, and engage with the thought of others. The book They Say I Say by Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein attempts to solve this problem that college and university students are faced with. Different from traditional books, which pay more attention to writing principles rather than practical use of them, They Say I Say offers students useful templates and directly applies them to practical writing. The book is written on the premise that good argumentative writing begins not with an act of assertion but an act of listening, of putting ourselves in the shoes of those who think differently from us (p. xiii). Its goal is to help college and university students become excellent writers and critical, independent thinkers by applying “moves”---steps to perform students’writing activities---to academic writing and offering specific methods and techniques. You mustn’t miss the first two sections of this book. They are worth reading if you want to have a general knowledge of this book. Two prefaces talk authors’intention of writing the book, innovation and improvement and also arguments on it. In introduction section, it’s clearly to know the foci of the book, and the authors

研究生考试英语作文模版

1.Some students prefer to study alone. Others prefer to study with a group of students. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. 2. You have enough money to purchase either a house or a business. Which would you choose to buy? Give specific reasons to explain your choice. 3. When people need to complain about a product or poor service, some prefer to complain in writing and others prefer to complain in person. Which way do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. When I want to make a complaint about a defective product or poor service, I would rather make my complaint in writing. Writing a complaint allows me to organize my points of argument in a logical manner. If I’m really unhappy with the way I’m being treated, I want to present my reasons clearly. I don’t want there to be any confusion about why I’m complaining. I like to list my complaints and then list supporting examples. That’s the best way of making sure everyone is clear about what I’m saying. Putting my complaint in writing also ensures it won’t seem too emotional. If you feel that you’v e been treated badly or taken advantage of, it’s easy to lash out. Losing your temper, though, is a sure ways to lose your argument. Yelling is very satisfying at the moment, but it only makes the person you’re yelling at mad at you. It doesn’t get them to agree with you or to offer help. Writing about your complaint and sending the letter registered mail also gives you written proof. It’s clear th at you tried to settle the matter in a reasonable manner within a certain time period. This way, if you need to take further action, you have physical evidence of your actions. There’s also the issue of the person you’re dealing with. If you complaint in person, you have to talk to whoever is there. Chances are that he or she isn’t the person responsible for the defective product or the poor service. Often the people who take complaints are not the people in change, unless you’re dealing with a very small business. Yelling at them isn’t fair, and doesn’t do anything to get a refund or satisfaction for you. You need to reach the person in charge. The best way to do that is in writing. Writing a complaint has the advantages of organization, effectiveness, and fairness. That’s why I prefer to write rather than personally present my complaints. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? With the help of technology, student nowadays can learn more information and learn it more quickly. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Self-confidence is the most important factor for success in school or at work. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
