The Application of Technology towards Future Careers

Information Security Analysts

The increasing presence of cyber attacks threatens large and small organizations with lose of valuable information or paralysis of computer network. It endangers both profit and non-profit organizations, including, but not limited to: banking and financial services, government agencies, and healthcare companies. Such organizations hire information security analysts as their countermeasures to cyber attacks. It is information security analysts' responsibility to plan and monitor security program to protect computers, networks and data of the entire organization, under the supervision of Chief Information Officer.

Duties of information security analysts include: monitor and control on information security breaches to secure the internal data for the organization as intended; develop and practice information system security policies, standards, procedures, and network incident recovery plans; create, manage, and promote information security awareness among network users within the organization.

The job outlook for information security analysts is expected to be much highly demanded, driven by increasing efforts to fight cyber crime. Employment is projected to grow by 22% nationwide through 2020, which is faster than the average (14%) for all occupations, according to data released in 2012 by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Most of information security analyst jobs require a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field. Desired

experience level is medium, which means to five years or more in computing and information security, including experience with internet technology and security issues. Web Developers

We often appreciate the design and layout of websites we frequent. A successful organization website should appeal to its customers or intended audience, and it can benefit any one from large corporations or governments to small businesses. Web developers are employed to design and create websites with user-friendly design, easy navigation, organized content and integrating graphics and audio. It is web developers' responsibility to design and maintain websites, including page layout and applications, to an organization's goal and value.

Duties of web developers include: define the purpose and target audience of the website; determine the type of content the website will present and functionality that the website can support; give guidance on layout, colors and styles to graphic design team; test the website and correct any technical problems; upload the site onto a server and register it with different search engines; monitoring website performance and capacity.

Demand for web developers is expected to continually grow, especially as online retail firms expand their size faster than the overall retail industry, according to data released by BLS. Web developer jobs expect applicants to have a degree-level education in software programs, Web applications, programming languages, or design principals. However, experience level is more important than degrees and certifications.

Computer Network Architects

Data communication can enhance decision maker's efficiency and effectiveness, as well as enable organizations to use e-mail and electronic file transfer to improve efficiency and productivity. It is computer network architects' responsibility to design and build data communication networks, including local area networks (LANS), wide area networks (WANS), and intranets, under the supervision of Chief Technology Officer.

Duties of computer network architects include: coordinate network operations, maintenance, repairs, or upgrades; Design, build, or operate equipment configuration prototypes, including network hardware, software, servers, or server operation systems; develop and write procedures for installation, use, or troubleshooting of communications hardware or software; evaluate network designs to determine whether customer requirements are met efficiently and effectively; prepare or monitor project schedules, budgets, or cost control systems.

Amount of computer network architects job will increase as a result of fast-growing wireless and mobile networks. Design and build new networks, upgrade existing ones, and the expansion of healthcare information technology demand more computer network architects to be employed, according to BLS. Typical education needed for entry is Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer and Information Systems,

Telecommunications, or related programs. Work experience needed for a job in this occupation is between one to five years.
