Describe a good parent you know.

You should say:

?Who the parent is

?How you know the parent

?What the parent looks like

?And explain why you think the parent is good.

Ok right then, well the parent I'd like to talk about is the mother of a good friend of mine, and the reason for choosing to talk about her is that my friend is always going on about how lucky he is to have such a nice mum. And from what I know about her, I'd say he's absolutely right!

Anyway, as for how I know her, well it's basically due to the fact that I went to the same middle school as her son. And because we became pretty good friends, we ended up seeing quite a lot of each other's parents, especially during the holidays when we often went over to each other's homes.

And regarding what his mother looks like, well interestingly enough, she actually looks pretty similar to my own mother, because they both have quite round faces and long wavy hair. Having said that though, I've noticed that my friend's mother often ties her hair up in a bun, whereas my mother usually always keeps it down. And another thing to mention would be that whenever I see her, she always seems to be wearing red clothes of some sort, which I guess is probably because red suits her quite well.

But anyway, finally then, with regard to why I think she's a good parent, well I'd say there are quite a few reasons, one of which would be that she's always been fully supportive to her son. And just to give you an example, when he was deciding what major to study at university, he ended up choosing music. And his mother gave him her full support, which is probably not what many other parents would have done, as music doesn't really leave open a lot of career choices, if you know what I mean!

And I think it's fair to say that nowadays, a lot of parents persuade their children to do things which they think are best for them, but my friend has said that his parents have never been like this with him, especially his mother. So I kind of get the impression that she's never forced him to do anything against his will, and has always let him make his own decisions, which I think is really great.

Describe a polite person you know.

You should say:

?Who the person is

?How you know the person

?What the person looks like

?And explain why you think the person is polite.

Ok, right then, well the person I'd like to talk to you about is a very good friend of mine called Matthew, the reason being that he must be one of the nicest and most polite people I know, which I'll come to explain in a moment.

But firstly, as for how I know him, well we've basically known each other since middle school, because we were in the same class together, and we still touch base quite a lot with each other. You know, if I feel like going out and doing something, I normally give him a call and see if he's free to meet up.

And moving on to why I think he's so polite, well it's basically because he's just got really good manners. And just to give you an example, he always says thank you to people, even for the slightest thing. For instance, I've noticed that whenever we're eating at a restaurant, he will thank the waiters and waitresses every time they bring a dish to the table. And another example would be that whenever he gets off a taxi, he will always say thank you to the driver, which a lot of people probably think isn't necessary, but I'm sure the bus drivers really appreciate it, as do the waiters and waitresses, because it's not all that often they hear people thanking them!

So yeah, that's basically why I'd say he's such a polite person, and I'm just trying to think if there's anything more to add, um … oh yeah, and one other thing to mention would be that he's always very complimentary to people. So what I mean is that he tends to always say nice things to people, for example he might make a comment about how nice someone's looking, or how good their cooking is, which I know might be seen as being a bit um … what's the word …um … insincere, but I think he genuinely means what he says, at least most of the time anyway!

And I mean, I can't remember a single time when he's ever been unpleasant or rude to anyone, and I also can't really imagine him being nasty to anyone either.

not all that often = 不是那么经常

I'm just trying to think if there's anything more to add = 我在想还有没有什么可以补充的

he's always very complimentary to people = 他总是对人很恭维

he tends to always = 他一般总

might be seen (by some) as being = 可能会被别人看作是

Describe a person you know who has an important job.

You should say:

?Who the person is

?Where the person works

?What the person does in the job

?And explain why you think the person's job is important.

Ok, well it was actually quite difficult choosing who to talk about, because I mean if you think about it, everyone's job is important in some way or other. But in the end I've decided to talk about an uncle of mine who's a doctor. And I apologise if you've already heard a lot of other examinees talking about doctors, but hopefully I can give you a few more insights into the job, based on what I know from my uncle.

So first of all, as for what he actually does in his job, well I've never really asked him the specifics of what he gets up to every day, but in a nutshell, he spends most of his time treating patients, which involves firstly finding out what's wrong with them, and then helping cure them of whatever pain or illness they have. So normally, after examining a patient and listening to what they have to say, my uncle will then give them a prescription for suitable medicine to take, which he told me is extremely difficult to get right every time, even after having over 20 years of experience, due to the fact that the human body is just so complex. And even though my uncle specializes in skin disorders, there are still countless different kinds of various infections and conditions, so it's not easy at all to give a one hundred percent accurate diagnosis every time, as I'm sure you can understand!

But anyway, regarding why his job is important, well I think it goes without saying that doctors are extremely important! I mean, if we didn't have them, most of us wouldn't have a clue how to make ourselves better, and so we wouldn't be able to get rid of a lot of illnesses we might have. Of course, for small ailments it wouldn't be too big a problem, but if you were to come down with something serious, then you would be in quite a bit of trouble if there weren't any doctors around to help you!

So yeah, I think it's pretty safe to say that they're an essential part of our society, and I'm really grateful to doctors like my uncle who have devoted so much of their time and effort into helping people get rid of their pains and illnesses, and thereby helping them lead happier and comfier lives.

Notes:

what he gets up to every day = what he does every day

in a nutshell = in short 简言之

countless different kinds of various = 多种多样

it goes without saying that = 不言而喻

Describe a cafe that you know in your hometown.

You should say:

?Where it is

?How often you go there

?Who you usually go there with

?What kind of food they serve there (or, what service they provide)

?And explain why you like to eat at this place.

Ok right then, well the cafe that I'd like to talk to you about is one called Maya Cafe, which is somewhere on the outskirts of the city, just a few minutes' walk from where I live.

And as for how often I go there, well I actually go there quite a lot, probably something like once or twice a week. Having said that though, it really kind of depends on how busy I am. I mean, there are times when I don't go for weeks on end because I'm simply too busy with stuff, but normally that's not the case, and I'm there pretty regularly, as I just mentioned.

Anyway, regarding what kind of things they serve there, well it's great, because they've got a really good selection of both Chinese and Western food, so there's a lot to choose from. And in terms of drinks, there's also quite a lot on the menu, especially coffee, which you can probably imagine, what with it being a cafe and all. And I tend to normally always go for the Chai Latte, cos I think they do it really well, and so I've never really felt the need to try any of the other drinks on the menu.

which would be that it's really big and spacious, at least compared to most of the other cafes I've been to, so you never have to worry about not finding a place to sit. Although having said that, it can sometimes get pretty busy in the evenings, so I usually tend to go in the morning or afternoon. Anyway, another thing to mention would be that the food and drinks there are pretty good-value. Because I mean, most of the Western food there only costs between about 30 to 50 Yuan, which is a lot cheaper than most of the other Western restaurants in the city. And the price of the coffee there is round about the same price as Starbuck's, which some people might see as expensive, but considering the fact that you're paying for the environment as well as the drink, I'd say it's definitely worth it.

Oh and the other thing I really like about it is that you can spend as much time as you want relaxing there, without being bothered by the waiters. And the chairs there are nice and comfy, so it's actually very easy to spend half the day there using the free wifi or doing whatever.

Describe a time you went to a place crowded with people.

You should say

?Where it was

?When you went there

?What you did there

?And explain why you went there / how you felt about the crowded place.

Ok, well the first place that came to mind when I saw this topic was the Beijing Metro, because I remember it being unbelievably crowded, so that's what I'm gonna talk to you about.

And as for when I went there, well it was actually pretty recently, which I suppose was probably only about two or three weeks ago, so it's still pretty fresh in my memory.

And regarding what I was doing there, well basically, I was on my way to see a friend who lives in Beijing, and she had told me that by far the best way to get around the city was using the subway, simply because the roads were so congested. So I took her advice, but it was a huge shock when I actually got into the subway station and saw just how many people there were. I mean, I knew that there would be a lot of people, but I never expected to see that many!

Although looking back on it now, I suppose what made it worse was the fact that I was travelling during rush hour, so it was a lot more crowded than I'm sure it would have been during off-peak times. And when I saw how packed the train was when it was pulling into the station, I remember thinking there was no way I was going to be able to get on. But I was in a bit of a hurry, coz I was actually already running late, so I had no choice really but to join the huge queue of people waiting. Anyway, I did somehow manage to make it onto the train, but I was pressed up against people on all sides, so it was pretty uncomfortable to say the least! I mean, it was absolutely heaving, and I literally couldn't move at all! crowded = packed = heaving 拥挤的

Thankfully though, I didn't have too far to travel, coz if I remember correctly, I was only on the train for about 4 stops. And when I finally got off, I remember feeling incredibly relieved, and also very grateful that I didn't have to go through the same experience every day.

Describe another language (not English) that you would like to learn.

You should say:

?What language it would be

?How you would learn it

?What equipment or facilities you would need to study this language

?And explain what difficulties you think you would have / why you would choose this language.

Ok right then, well there are actually quite a few languages that I would like to learn, but probably the one I'd like to learn most is French, partly because it sounds quite nice, and also because France is a country that I'd really love to visit sometime. Thus if I were able to speak French, I would then be able to converse with the locals, which would give me a much better understanding of the country and also make my time there a lot more interesting and enjoyable.

Anyway, as for how I would learn it, well I guess first of all I would try and find a decent self-study course on the Internet. And as well as that, I suppose another thing I would do would be to look for a teacher, preferably a native speaker if possible, because I would then be able to get feedback on what I was doing right and wrong. And having a native speaker as my teacher I think would be extremely beneficial in terms of developing a good accent.

And regarding what equipment I would need to study French, well thinking about it, I suppose it would be more or less the same as what I've been using for learning English, so basically a laptop and mp4 player, with which I would be able to download various things like podcasts and other learning materials onto.

So that's probably how I would learn the language, and finally, with regard to what difficulties I think I might encounter, well firstly, I imagine I might have quite a bit of difficulty with the pronunciation, as it's so different to Chinese. I mean, there are so many sounds in French which we don't have in our language, so I'm sure it would take an extremely long time to speak it well. And besides the pronunciation, I guess it might also be pretty difficult mastering the grammar, simply because every language has its own set of grammar rules, and I'm sure French is no exception!

Describe a book or film about the future you read or watched.

You should say:

?What the name of it was

?When you read or watched it

?What it was about

?And explain how you felt about it.

Ok right then, well the film I'm gonna talk about is called Waterworld, the reason being that it's the only one I can actually remember watching which was set in the future.

So anyway, as for when I watched it, well I suppose it must have been around five or six years ago, when I was still at middle school.

And regarding what the film was about, well basically, it's set at a time when the planet is almost completely submerged in water, because the ice caps have all melted due to global warming, and so the sea levels have risen to a point where all land has pretty much been covered by water.

So that's the situation, and basically what happens in the film is that everyone's living on boats and looking for land. And if I remember correctly, there's a girl who's got some kind of map tattooed on her which shows where land can actually be found.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, the film finishes with them eventually finding the land and living happily ever after, which came as no surprise to me, seeing as most Hollywood movies tend to end that way.

So yeah, that's basically the gist of it, and as for what I thought of the film, well to tell you the truth I didn't really think it was all that good, because I mean the plot was a bit too predictable, you know, there was no real suspense. So in that respect, I thought it could have been better. But saying that, I suppose there were also a few things I did like about it, one of which was the special effects, which I thought were pretty impressive.

And another thing I liked about the film was that it made me really kind of appreciate the land that we have around us, which I know sounds a bit ridiculous, but I mean, before watching the film, I kind of just took it for granted and didn't really think much about it. So in a way it sort of helped me appreciate my life a bit more, if you know what I mean!

Notes:

the reason being that = because 因为

It must have been around = It was about 大约,大概

to cut a long story short = in short 长话短说

Describe an interesting (and impressive) talk (or speech) that you heard.

You should say:

?Who gave the talk

?What the talk was about

?Where you heard it

?And explain why the talk was interesting / what you learned from the talk.

Ok right then, well to be honest, there aren't really that many speeches I've heard which I can remember in much detail, you know, I tend to forget most talks pretty much as soon as I've finished listening to them! But one talk that did leave a particularly deep impression on me was by Li Kaifu, who I'm not sure if you've heard of before, but he's one of the most accomplished and respected people here in China, which is why I made the effort to listen to what he had to say.

So firstly, as for where I heard it, well I listened to his speech at home on my computer, because I haven't been fortunate enough to hear him speaking live yet, so I basically just found an mp3 recording on Baidu, which I then downloaded onto my computer and listened to.

But anyway, regarding what his speech was about, well it was quite a while ago when I heard it, so I can only remember bits of it, but in a nutshell, it was basically about success and how we can go about achieving it. And so in his speech, he outlined a few things that we can do if we want to lead a successful and fulfilling life, which most of us do of course!

So for example, one thing he touched upon was how we should all follow our dreams, instead of simply doing what other people expect of us. And hearing this from Li Kaifu himself really made me believe in the truth of that statement, because he's speaking from experience. And he also went on to explain that many other successful people also attribute their success to the fact that they pursued their dreams.

and so I was able to learn a tremendous amount from it, such as, you know, how to be successful in what I do, and also what values I should live my life by.

What else? … um … Oh yeah, and another thing that made his talk especially interesting was the fact that he used a lot of stories. So I mean, even though his talk went on for over an hour or so, I didn't feel bored at all listening to it, and in fact I even made a mental note that, if I ever have to do any public speaking myself in the future, I'll also try to include a few stories, like Li Kaifu did.

Notes:

I haven't been fortunate enough to = 我还没有……的福气

Describe an (important) occasion when you were late.

You should say:

?What occasion you were late for

?When it happened

?Why you were late

?And explain what happened as a result of your lateness (or, explain how you felt when you were late).

Ok then, well the occasion I'd like to talk to you about was actually one of my first lectures I had at university, which I suppose must have been about four or five months ago, at the beginning of the semester.

And regarding why I was late, well it was mainly due to the fact that I overslept. You know, I didn't hear my alarm go off, so I somehow just slept through it. And the reason for that was probably because I was up quite late the night before. I mean, it was the beginning of the university year, and so I'd been out with my new roommates. You know, we thought it would be good to go out for a few drinks and get to know each other a bit!

So I ended up going to bed at about two or three in the morning, which explains why I overslept a little. And to make matters worse, I remember waking up with a splitting headache and feeling pretty hungover, which is not the best way to start a new course at university I know, but anyway, that's the way it was.

And when I finally got to the lecture theatre, it was really quite embarrassing, because the door was right at the front of the room, so everyone saw me walked in late, including the lecturer, who actually stopped talking and turned round to look at me. So it was a horrible feeling, and the first thing I did was apologise to him for being late and disturbing everyone, and then I went to find a seat at the back as soon as possible!

Thankfully though, the guy who was sitting next to me was nice enough to tell me everything that I'd missed, which I was extremely grateful for. But the only unfortunate consequence was that I hadn't really left a very good first impression on my lecturer, as you can imagine! So I decided to make a big effort, from then on, to always be on time for his lectures, which I'm happy to say I have been up to now!

Notes:

go off = (警报器)突发巨响

be up quite late = 熬夜到很晚

end up doing sth. = 最终做某事

to make matters worse = 雪上加霜的是

Describe a mathematics class you attended at primary school.

You should say:

?When and where you attended the class

?What the teacher taught

?What you did during the class

?And explain how you felt about the class.

And as for when I attended the class, well I suppose I must have been about six or seven years old, because that's the age when most children start primary school here in China.

And regarding what the teacher taught us in that class, well if truth be told, I can't actually remember a thing he taught us, and I would be lying if I said I did! I mean, all I remember is him introducing himself and giving us our new text books. But in terms of the maths itself, I literally can't remember a word he said, because all we did was just go through the textbook. But my guess would be that we just did basic equations, you know, like two plus two equals four, three times three equals nine, because at that age we could only handle very simple arithmetic.

Anyway, as for how I felt about the class, well to put it simply, it left no impression on me at all, because I mean, I think for any child of that age, simply just ploughing through the textbook in class is mind-numbingly boring! You know, when we're that young, we kind of need a bit more stimulation and excitement to concentrate.

So I think it would have been a lot more fun if the teacher had given some practical examples of how we could actually use maths in our everyday lives, as this would have helped spark my interest. You know, it would have made the maths come alive a bit more. But as I mentioned just now, all we did was just look at equations in the text book, without having any idea of their relevance to our lives. So I kinda just switched off in all of my maths classes, cos they were all as bad as each other, unfortunately!

Notes:

have a vague memory = remember … vaguely 模糊的印象

if truth be told = to tell you the truth 老实说

my guess would be that = I guess 我觉得

to put it simply = in short 简言之

Describe a special meal you were invited to.

You should say:

?When and where you were invited

?Who invited you

?What you ate

?And explain how you felt about the meal.

Canada for a few years to start university there, so he invited a few of his close friends for a farewell dinner before heading off. And one of the reasons I've chosen to talk about this meal instead of some of the others I've been to is simply that it's still quite fresh in my memory. You know, it was only about a couple of weeks ago when it happened.

And as for where we had the meal, well I can't remember the exact name of the place, but it was quite a posh restaurant somewhere in the centre of the city, and judging from how nice it looked when I walked in, it seemed to be a pretty expensive place to dine. So I was kind of relieved that it wouldn't be me footing the bill! And we also had our own separate room, which was nice, and probably just as well, seeing as we made quite a bit of noise during the meal, what with all the laughing and stuff going on.

Anyway regarding what we ate, well I couldn't tell you every single dish that we had, because there was just so much, you know, the whole table was literally covered with food. I mean, there was crab, chicken, duck, what else, um … oh yeah, shrimps, and, uh … oh and a whole load of different vegetables. So by the end of it, I was absolutely stuffed. You know, we all ate masses, because the food was so good, and it would have been a bit of a pity to see it go to waste!

But anyway, finally then, with regard to how I felt about the meal, well to put it simply, I really enjoyed it. Because as well as the food, which was fantastic, I really enjoyed everyone's company. You know, it was great being together with so many good friends, many of which I hadn't seen in quite a while.

So yeah, all in all, it was a really special evening, and I'm extremely grateful to have been invited, and also very grateful to my friend for his generosity, as the bill must have come to quite a lot, I'm sure!

多米诺骨牌效应:=Something you learned from math=Something you learned from your family=A piece of advice=A change you had=An important stage in your life=A text message you got=A letter you got=An E-mail you got=A way of communication=An important decision you made=A person who helped you=A kind thing someone did to you=A family member you love talking to=A good parent=An elderly family member=A neighbor=A good friend=A teacher=A science course you took=A subject you love/d at school=Your personality=First day of college=Your experience of getting money as a gift=Your experience of getting congratulations=A person you helped=A thing your friend did made you admire.

雅思口语Part2答案:成为你朋友的人

雅思口语Part2答案:成为你朋友的人参考答案: Though I have many friends, my friendship with them grew up with times and mutual understanding. But I can recall that my friendship with George grew up almost all of a sudden. George is senior to me by 2-3 years and I did not meet him until I was in the 4th semester in my University. One of my term final exam's schedules was changed and I did not know that. According to my previous exam schedule I reached my University and was totally confused what to do when I heard that the exam was already over. I went to our Departmental head's office and he could not find a way around of it. He blamed me that I should have been more careful about the changes. I explained him that I was sick and did not come to university for 3-4 days and that made me unaware of the exam schedule changes. Then I found that someone who was sitting next to me in the departmental head's office asked me to meet the course teacher and explain the situation. He then escorted me to our course teacher's room and talked to the teacher. It seemed to me that George was already personally known to our teacher and they had an intimate relationship. Hearing everything the teacher agreed to arrange an exam for me next day in his office room. My friendship with George grew up after that event and albeit our age differences we found that we had many common interests and habits. We started spending time and I visited his home many times. We worked in a retail shop for about 6 months and that helped us become more intimate.

It's located in the city center of Guangzhou and its not far away from Zhongshan 6 Road, near the People's Hospital. It's a good place to go to and climb to see the Flower Pagoda, which has eight sides to it. You can also go there to pray if you are a Buddhist. It is an active temple and is also the head of the Guangzhou Buddhist Association. You can also do a bit of shopping there if you like. Besides the souvenirs you can buy there, it also has a very lively fruit and meat market nearby, so if you just want to shop instead you can. The main feature of this place is the pagoda because it's the tallest in the city. From the outside it looks like it has only nine stories, but actually it has 17 inside. It's quite old, and was built some time in the 10th century. The temple itself is even older than that-I think it goes back to some time

雅思口语Part2答案:在校学习的课程

雅思口语Part2答案:在校学习的课程 参考答案: The subject that I'd like to describe is Physics that was taught in our school. We had this subject in each year of our high school and each year a new teacher used to taught us the subject. Even we had to read physics in college as Science was my major. I remember Mr. Alex, Burter, John, David and Mrs. Jeniffer took Physics in different years. We were lucky to have good Physics teachers who could make the subject interesting and enjoyable. Our teachers used to tell us stories first and then would explain the theory, experiment or math of the text books. They would then relate the story with the study. Later they would explain us the real examples and facts. Sometimes they used to take us to the Physics labs and explain how something works. I have learned numerous things of physics from simple definition of mass to the complex explanation of Einstein's Theory of Relativity. My foundation of physics grew up and expanded with the help of those teachers. The subject itself is utterly interesting if one can have passion for it. It is one such subject that one would start loving it if s/he starts understanding the underlying concepts of it. Physics is all around us and the lesson I learned from my School had helped me greatly throughout my higher academic years. Tips for answering this cue card topic: You should pick a real academic subject like Math, English, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, and Biology to answer this cue card. Then quickly take some notes including the following: 1. In which class was it taught? 2. Do not pick a subject taught in your college or university level as the cue card is asking you to talk about a subject taught in your school. 3. Try to remember a teacher's name. You can mention multiple teachers' name as the same subject in school is taught by different teachers in different classes. 4. Give a short detail what the subject. Mention some interesting things you learned from the class and how the teacher made things easier to understand for you. 7. Describe how interested you were about the subject and the class. 8. 雅思口语Part2参考答案之到你家做客的人 一、参考范文 We often have guests, visitors and relatives in our home and for special occasions like a birthday party several invited guests come to our home. One such occasion and special guest I remember came to our home 2-3 years back. He was a famous writer and came to our home on occasion of my older sister’s marriage ceremony. He was known to the father of the bridegroom’s senior brother and a well-known figure in our city. His name is Mr. Jonathon Durik (…say a name you like…) and when he arrived all of us recognized him. The marriage ceremony was a big program and almost 200 people attended the ceremony. We had to prepare for the program for about a week before the due date. This ceremony was arranged in our own house and we had been tremendously busy for the occasion. A marriage ceremony is a big arrangement and my parents were very busy as well as sad that my sister would be leaving our house after her marriage. This was a big event and there were lots of things to be done. I had been so busy and had to greet and serve so many guests that I had hard time concentrating. The bridegroom and their relatives arrived and we got even busier. They introduced the guests to us and one of them was Mr. Durik. I greeted him and helped him sitting in a comfortable couch. I got busy with other stuffs and came to the guests time to time to look after if he needed anything. I asked what type of foods he would prefer to eat and took him to the dinning place. 雅思口语话题Part2范例:Animal

雅思口语话题范例:Animal Question Describe an interesting animal you like. Sample answer Elephant is the largest land animal and in my opinion is an interesting animal. In my childhood I have seen some of the elephant that their owners brought to show the public and later on I learned about this animal from TV and internet. The elephants are found in many countries in Asia and Africa including Thailand, Some parts of Australia, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. They are wild animal and are found in forests and hill areas. There are many interesting facts about this animal and some of them are really unique. First of all this animal is the largest species alive who live in land area. They are bigger in size and a baby elephant is usually 3 feet tall and weight almost 200 pounds or over 90 kg. The largest elephant on record was more than 13 feet and was more than 10,000 kg which is significantly higher than any other land living animal. Secondly, they are very aborigines animal and there are evidences that there were 6-7 elephant species during the Ice Age in North America and Eurasia. The wrinkled skins of elephants help them regulate the temperature and humidity. It helps them retain 5-10 times more water than a smooth skinned animal. This wrinkled skin also helps them cooling down their body temperature by losing more heat. Another interesting fact about elephant is that the herd of the elephants is usually led by a female elephant. Interestingly the tie of the elephant herd is so strong that they mourn when a member dies. A matured elephant eats around 170 kg foods and 80 liters of water and this amount increases in the rainy season when an elephant eats more than 200 kg foods. Elephants can walk almost noiselessly because of the soft cushions they have under their foot. Finally elephants are social animals and they live in a herd. They obey the rules and responsibilities of their society and the mother elephants teach the baby elephants about the rules and responsibilities much like the humans do.
