Getting sick is an illness in itself; men and women want different things.

One of those complaints that women usually aim at men is that we are fools when it comes to being ill or injured. I have a friend who recently managed to cut off a large part of his toe there was exposed bone. Now what’ s sure is that there was a woman there who was saying“Oh come on,that’s nothing;try giving birth, then you’ll know what real pain is. ”

I suspect that when my frien d recovers from his injury the last thing he’ll do a year or two is purposely to do it again, because it hurts.

And when we’re ill you’ll find women complaining about what babies we are and how, when they’re ill,we don’t pay them enough attention. Look, this is because when we are ill we want you to keep away and leave us alone. We really do want you to go away. We are on a oneman mission. The pain wasn’t beaten by a pillow and a bit of spoiling.

And you should do the same.

SHE SAYS

I tell you, if we actually listened to men and their“Leave me alone to suffer through this”sayings,it would actually be wrong. Left to suffer pains and fevers, men would simply become piles of unnoticed anger.

We’d better return to their bedsides, not following their instructions to leave them alone

and provide food, warm drinks, clear liquids, painkillers,a bedside light,hot-water bottles, and a kindly ear to their groanings (呻吟),and that’s what they really need.

For they had never relied on us taking their protestations(抗议)seriously. Never thought

You have the ability to decide if you are happy or not. Happiness is a choice.

You can’t depend on someone else to make you happy. That is a lesson I learned early in

my marriage. I realized that I couldn’t rely on my husband as my source of happiness. I learned that you have to choose to be happy.

You can choose your emotions. True happiness comes from within;it can’t be forced by outside forces. It is the same way you choose to smile. You choose it because that’s what you want to experience in your life.

You want to buy a new pair of shoes so you choose a pair that you like and feel good. You wouldn’t buy a pair of s hoes that you don’t like or that don’t fit well, right?

Choosing to be happy after you realize your anger has shown up (or even choosing to be calm)can be beneficial. We choose our feelings; no one can do that for us. If we let others get

to influence our emotions,we are giving them power over us. When others cause us anger or pain,we are giving them our power.

We need to keep our feelings in check and not react automatically to what is thrown at us. We need to think our actions out instead of just reacting to what someone says or does.

Remember that we can always choose happiness. At first it will be difficult to just switch your thoughts and feelings from anger,self-doubt,or fear to joy and happiness. But it is only a thought away. Don’t be lost in what happens to you unnecessarily but realize what is causing

you to feel that way. Realize that thoughts, feelings and emotions can change. Then move on and choose to be happy.

71. What’ s the best title of this passage?

A. Pretend to Be Happy

B. Choose Your Emotions

C. Choose to Be Happy

D. Find Happiness

72. The lesson the writer learned in her marriage is___________.

A. one can’t rely on someone else to make himself or herself happy

B. balancing the relationship between the husband and wife is an art

C. she can depend on her husband to find happiness

D. happiness can be influenced by outside forces

73. Why did the writer mention buying shoes?

A. To offer advice on how to choose comfortable shoes.

B. To use it as an example illustrating the importance of choosing to be happy.

C. To compare choosing shoes and choosing an outfit.

D. To help to move to the next paragraph easily.

74. The writer suggests that we should__________.

A. 1et others control our feelings

B. respond imme diately to others’ words

C. hold back our feelings properly

D. pay more attention to words than actions

75. The general idea of the last paragraph is that_________.

A. people have different feelings at different time

B. anger is only a thought away

C. we should list the reasons for our various emotions

D. one can change one’s feelings and choose to be happy

第四部分书面表达(共两节,满分45分)

第一节阅读表达(共5小题;每小题3分,满分l 5分)

阅读下面的短文,并根据短文后的要求答题(请注意问题后的字数要求)。

Most writers of novels have written many books and are remembered for different titles. However Margaret Mitchell is remembered for only one,Gone With the Wind。

Margaret married John Marsh on July 4,1925. She wanted to be a writer so she was doing some research in rural Georgia when she missed a stop sign and ran her car into a tree. She injured her ankle so seriously that it forced Margaret to bed. Finally, she decided she should return to her writing as she couldn’t do anything else.

She remembered well the story of her grandmother during the Civil War. She thought she could invent a story based on her recollections of what the South was like just before the war. Her writing came easily and the famous love story of Scarlet O’ Hara and Rhett Butler began to take shape.

She wrote the story off and on from 1926 to 1935. She was an excellent researcher but her notes ended up in envelopes. Sometimes she should write a chapter in two different ways so the reader of her story would certainly be confused.

The MacMillan publishing company sent their Vice President Harold Latham to meet with authors and find some good manuscripts. Margaret’s friend told Harold about “Gone With the Wind ”.

Latham came to the Atlanta Athletic Club in 1935·where he met many authors including Margaret. She refused to show him her manuscript as she did not think it was in good order.

During the ride home from the teatime meeting,Margaret and a number of authors chatted about t he evening’s events. They criticized her for not sharing her work. Margaret became angry and stayed that way when she arrived home. She grabbed up what manuscript she could lay her hands on,forgetting the envelopes that were under the bed and in the pot-and-pan closet. She then went to the hotel and caught Latham just as he was about to leave to catch the train.

The book became a bestseller which led to the making of the movie. Gone With the Wind

is considered one of the best movies ever made. Margaret Mitchell became very famous due to her research and careful writing.

R ecently, a “Free Hugs” campaign, which hit the streets of Beijing, Changsha and Shanghai, has received both support and criticism.

Some think that free hugs will bring people closer and make the world more like a big family. Meanwhile, hugging and caring for strangers may remove the coldness of human relations in big cities. What’s more, it can be a step to harmony.

Some others have just the opposite opinion. They think hugging is a foreign tradition. Most Chinese are not accustomed to this and they may get either uninterested or embarrassed. So we shouldn’t merely copy Western things without considering Chinese traditions and customs. We can find other ways to help society.

Personally, I agree with the first view. Too often, we ignore the power of a touch, a listening ear, or the smallest act of kindness. If you embrace your parents when you go home, or embrace your friends when they feel unhappy, things will be quite different
