两小儿辩日英文翻译

孔子东游，见两小儿辩斗，问其故。

Confucius goes to the east to travel, seeing two children disputing on the way. Ask what they are arguing .

一儿曰：“我以日始出时去人近，而日中时远也。”一儿以日初远，而日中时近也。

One child says: "I think the sun is close to people while just coming out , far from people at noon. "But another child thinks the sun far from people while just coming out, close to people at noon.

一儿曰：“日初出大如车盖，及日中则如盘盂（yú），此不为远者小而近者大乎”

The first mentioned of the two child says: "The sun is big like the covering on the gig (秦始皇时期仍然使用双轮马车，用gig比较符合，carriage一般形容四轮马车)while just coming out, small just like t he plate of food at noon, isn’t this when the sun far is small and near seems big "

一儿曰：“日初出沧(cāng)沧凉凉，及其日中如探汤，此不为近者热而远者凉乎”

Another child says: "It’s like stretching into hot water at noon while feels a little cold when the sun is just coming out. Isn’t this exactly when the sun is near people f eeling hot, far feeling cool

孔子不能决也。

Confucius also can’t judge who is right and who is wrong.

两小儿笑曰：“孰(shú)为汝(rǔ)多知(zhì)乎”

The two kids talk t o Confucius with smile: “who says you have much wisdom”

孔子到东方游历，见到两个小孩在争辩，（就过去）问他们在辩什么。一个小孩说：“我认为太阳刚出来的时候距离人最近，到了中午的时候离人远。”另一个小孩说：“我认为太阳刚出来的时候远，而到中午的时候近。”一个小孩说：“太阳刚出来的时候像马车的车顶那么大,等到中午的时候就像盛食物的盘子一样大，这不就是太阳远的时候看起来小,近的时候看起来大吗”另一个小孩说：“太阳刚出来的时候清凉而略带寒意，等到了中午的时候就像把手伸进热水里，这不就是太阳近的时候热,远的时候凉吗”孔子也不能判定谁对谁错。两个小孩笑着对孔子说：“谁说你智慧多呢
