Launched in 2015 and due to end in 2020，the Skills for Reconstruction project teaches Nepalis in earthquake-hit areas how to build disaster-resilient houses．The aim is to help ease the country’s labour shortage while also arming participants with experience they call later use to find jobs in construction．

The training project is jointly financed by the Nepalese government and the Swiss Development．Since its launch，it has trained almost 9，000 people in the 14 districts most severely affected by the earthquake and most vulnerable to future climate disasters．

Trainees have rebuilt more than 3,000 houses in 10 of those districts．In the other four，limited access to remote areas and a shortage of skilled labourers to run the training programmes has stalled reconstruction．

Many of the new homes have been built using housing grants from the National Reconstruction Authority．In Makawanpur district，about 33，250 families are qualified to receive grants of $3，000 each，paid out in three shares．

Most of the houses destroyed by the earthquake across rural Nepal were made using traditional materials of wood and stone，with no pillars（柱子）for support．The designs prescribed（规定）by the NRA for new buildings are more likely to withstand earthquakes．Builders call choose from a range of materials，techniques and designs —from a two－storey structure made of steel and bricks to a two－room home constructed from rubble．mud and wire．

Oodi, Helsinki’s new Central Library, is intended as an ode（颂歌）to knowledge and learning.

Many foreign visitors who come here for the first time are very surprised that the library does not have a very large book collection but features what people nowadays often use, like digital devices, studios for music and video production, a cinema, and workshops containing 3-D printers and laser cutters, and all are free to customers.

“Oodi gives a new modern idea of what it means to be a library,” said Tommi Laitio, Helsinki’s director of culture and leisure.“It’s a house of literature but also a house of technology, a house of music, a house of cinema. And I think all of these come together to this idea of hope and progress.”

One sign of such progress is the building’s fleet of book-carrying robots —small gray wagons which navigate（导航） themselves in and out of lifts, avoiding people and furniture, in order to bring returned books up from the basement and drop them off at the correct bookcase.

The library is a huge, flowing structure of wood and glass sitting in the city center. It is organized in three different levels. The ground floor is the extension of the square in front of the building and it's like an indoor version of the square.
