四、语法:定冠词( the )的用法

定冠词the,基本含义是“这个,那个”,或“这些,那些”表示特指,可修饰可数名词单数和复数,也可修饰不可数名词。

例: the flower 那朵花 the E-mail 那个电子邮件 the apples 这些苹果

the milk 那些牛奶 the children 那些小孩

1. 用来表示世界上独一无二的事物。例如:the sun /earth /moon

2. 用来表示前面已经提到过的人或事物。例如:

Last night, I read a book. The book was very interesting.

昨晚我读了一本书。这本书非常有趣。

A girl stands under a tree. The girl is Mary. 一个女孩站在一棵树下。这个女孩是Mary。

3. 用在序数词、形容词最高级等前:t he first class 第一节课 the tallest boy

4. 用在表示乐器名词前: play the piano/ violin/ guitar 弹钢琴/拉小提琴/弹吉他

★5. 用在姓氏复数形式前,表示“全家人”或“夫妇俩”the Greens 格林一家人

★6. 用在某些形容词前,表示某一类人the young 年轻人

零冠词的用法

1. 专有名词前不用冠词专有名词包括人名、地名、月份、季节、周日、节日等。

2. 在一日三餐(have breakfast / lunch / supper )的名词以及球类、棋类、学科、语言的名

词前不用冠词

3. 某些交通工具名称前不用冠词

by train 乘火车(=on a train) by ship 乘船(=on a ship)

by taxi 乘出租车(= in a taxi) by bike 骑自行车 (=on a bike)

by plane 乘飞机(=on a plane) by bus 乘公交车 (=on a bus)

by car 乘小汽车(=in a car) on foot 步行

4.名词前有物主代词( my, your, our, their )、指示代词( this, that,these,those )、不定

代词( some, any, each, every )、疑问代词( whose, which )或名词所有格( Tom's, the girl's )时,不可再加冠词。例:这是我的书。This is a my book.(误)This is my book.(正)

汤姆的母亲是一位医生。The Tom's mother is a doctor.(误)Tom's mother is a doctor.(正)

不定冠词( a; an )的用法

不定冠词a和an,基本含义是“一”或“一个”,表示泛指,只修饰可数名词单数。

不定冠词a用于辅音开头的可数名词单数前,不定冠词an用于元音开头的可数名词单数前。

注意,这里讲的辅音、元音指的是音标,不是指字母。

例:a hotel 一家旅馆a knife 一把小刀

an hour 一小时an honour 一种荣誉an honest boy 一个诚实的男孩

a D [di:] 一个D (B、C、G、J、K、P、Q、T、U、V、W、Y、Z 前也用a)

an F [ef] 一个F (A、E、H、I、L、M、N、O、R、S、X 前也用an)

例:There is an“ l” and a“ u ” in the word “ building”.

在单词“ building”中,有一个“ l”和一个“u ”。

an umbrella 一把伞 an uncle 一位叔叔

当以其他的元音字母( a e i o )开头的单词,在选用a或an时,都用an 而不用a,因为此四个元音字母都读作元音。
