On March 14th2018, one of science’s brightest stars went dark. Stephen Hawking, the world-famous British scientist, died at 76 in Cambridge, UK.

Hawking is considered by many to be the greatest scientist in history since Albert Einstein.

A new Chinese-English edition(版本) of the four classics of Chinese literature(文学) recently came out by a Shanghai publishing house after ten years of persistent(持久的) efforts, The four great classical novels were finished in the Ming and Qing dynasties, around half a century ago, and include The Story of the Stone, The Three Kingdoms, The Journey to the West, and The Marshes of Mount Liang.

The Marshes of Mount Liang translated by John and Alex Deng-Young was first published in 2011, followed by The Story of the Stone by British sinologists David Hawksand John Minford, and The Journey to the West by Anthony C. Yu, a scholar of literature at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS) and the University of Chicago.

The Three Kingdoms, translated by Chinese professor Yu Sumei, was the last of the series(系列) to be translated, but it is the first English version(译本) by a Chinese translator, and his fellows have spoken highly of it.

“The Three Kingdoms represents the supreme achievement of historical novels in ancient China, and also vividly(生动的) reflects the political and culture of that time” said Professor Cha Mingjian from the Shanghai International Studies University.

Cha said Yu’s translation is faithful(忠实于) to the original and more acceptable for Western readers, and can be compared to the Homer’s Epic in the English world. Its purpose is to make more foreign readers understand China's traditional culture.

On a Friday night, a poor young artist stood at the gate of the subway station, playing his violin. Though the music was great, people were quickly going home for the weekend. In this case, many of them put some money into the hat of the young man.

The next day, the young artist came to the gate of the subway station, and put his hat on the ground gracefully. Different than the day before, he took out a large piece of paper and laid it on the ground and put some stones on it. Then he began playing. It seemed more pleasant to listen to.

Before long, the young violinist was surrounded with people. All people were all attracted by the words on that paper. It said, "Last night, a gentleman named George Sang put an important thing into my hat by mistake. Please come to get it soon."

After about half an hour, a middle-aged man ran there in a hurry and rushed through the crowd to the violinist and grabbed his shoulders and said, "Yes, it's you. You did come here. I knew that you're an honest man and would certainly come here."
