And home appliances will alsobecome so smart 0.5分//that controlling and operating them will result in 0.5分//the breakout of a new psychological disorder0.5分—//kitchen rage0.5分. 结果状语从句; 2) 破折号后面的kitchen rage 是在解释a new psychological disorder 。 3) result in the breakout of a new psychological disorder ,意思是“导致一种新的心理疾病的爆发”。

Two years before graduating from secondary school, I took a sewing and design course thinking that I would move on to a fashion design course. However, during that course I realized that I was not good enough in this area to compete with other creative personalities in the future, so I decided that it was not the right path for me. Before applying for university I told everyone that I would study journalism, because writing was, and still is, one of my favourite activities. But, to be absolutely honest, I said it, because I thought that fashion and me together was just a dream - I knew that no one, apart from myself, could imagine me in the fashion industry at all!【参考译文】 我的梦想 我的梦想一直是在时装设计和出版界之间找寻一个工作。 1. Two years before graduating from secondary school, I took a sewing and

Directions: Read the following text carefully and then translate the underlined segments into Chinese. Your translation should be written clearly on ANSWER SHEET 2. According to the new school of scientists, technology is an overlooked force in expanding the horizons of scientific knowledge. (71) Science moves forward, they say, not so much through the insights of great men of genius as because of more ordinary things like improved techniques and tools. (72) "In short" , a leader of the new school contends, "the scientific revolution, as we call it, was largely the improvement and invention and use of a series of instruments that expanded the reach of science in innumerable directions. " (73)Over the years, tools and technology themselves as a source of fundamental innovation have largely been ignored by historians and philosophers of science. The modern school that hails technology algues that such masters as Galileo, Newton, Maxwell, Einstein, and inventors such as Edison attached great importance to, and derived great benefit from, craft information and technological devices of different kinds that were usable in scientific experiments. The centerpiece of the argument of a technology-yes , genius-no advocate was an analysis of Galileo' s role at the start of the scientific revolution. The wisdom of the day was derived from Ptolemy, an astronomer of the second century, whose elaborate system of the sky put Earth at the center of all heavenly motions. (74)Galileo' s greatest glory was that in 1609 he was the first person to turn the newly invented telescope on the heavens to prove that the planets revolve around the sun rather than around the Earth. But the real hero of the story, according to the new school of scientists, was the long evolution in the improvement of machinery for making eyeglasses . Federal policy is necessarily involved in the technology vs. genius dispute. (75)Whether the Government should increase the financing of pure science at the expense of technology or vice versa (反之) often depends on the issue of which is seen as the driving force.

A few years ago, in one of the most fascinating and disturbing experiments in behavioral psychology, Stanley Milgram of Yale University tested 40 subjects from all walks of life for their willingness to obey instructions given by a“leader”in a situation in which the subjects might feel a personal distaste for the actions they were called upon to perform. Stanley Milgram of Yale University tested 40 subjects from all walks of life. A few years ago, in one of the most fascinating and disturbing experiments in behavioral psychology为状语,修饰主干;for their willingness to obey instructions given by a“leader”in a situation也是状语,修饰主干;in which the subjects might feel a personal distaste for the actions为状语中的定语从句,修饰”situation”;(that)they were called upon to perform是定语从句中的定语从句,修饰”actions”。 A few years ago, in one of the most fascinating and disturbing experiments in behavioral psychology译为“几年前,在一次行为心理学中最吸引人但又最让人不安的实验中”。 Stanley Milgram of Yale University tested 40 subjects from all walks of life,译为“来自耶鲁大学的Stanley Milgram测试了来自各行各业的40个实验对象”。 按顺序往下译,第二个状语部分:for their willingness to obey instructions given by a“leader”in a situation,其中为了表达更顺畅,可以把“their willingness”名词转换为动词,译为“测试出在某一个情形中,他们愿意遵守由一个领导者发出的指令。” 最后译定语从句:in which the subjects might feel a personal distaste for the actions they were called upon to perform,译为“在这一情形中,实验对象可能会对被要求实施的行为产生个人的厌恶感”。

1. Even when we turn off the beside lamp and are fast asleep, electricity is working for us,driving our refrigerators, heating our water,or keeping our rooms air-conditioned. 2. But now it is realized that supplies of some of them are limited, and it is even possibleto give a reasonable estimate of their “expectation of life”,the time it will take to exhaust allknown sources and reserves of these materials. (84年考题) 分析:该句的骨干结构为“It is realized that…”,it为形式主语,that引导着主语从句以及并列的it is even possible to… 3. Prior to the twentieth century, women in novels were stereotypes of lacking anyfeatures that made them unique individuals and were also subject to numerous restrictionsimposed by the male-dominated culture. 4. This method of using“controls”can be applied to a variety of situations, and can beused to find the answer to questions as widely different as “Must moisture be present if iron is torust?”and “Which variety of beans gives the greatest yield in one se ason?”

Most people would define optimism as endlessly happy, with a glass that's perpetually half fall. But that's exactly the kind of falsecheerfulness that positive psychologists wouldn't recommend. "Healthy optimists means being in touch with reality." says Tal Ben-Shahar, a Harvard professor, According to Ben-Shahar, realistic optimists are these who make the best of things that happen, but not those who believe everything happens for the best. Ben-Shahar uses three optimistic exercisers. When he feels down-sag, after giving a bad lecture-he grants himself permission to be human. He reminds himself that mot every lecture can be a Nobel winner; some will be less effective than others. Next is reconstruction, He analyzes the weak lecture, leaning lessons, for the future about what works and what doesn't. Finally, there is perspective, which involves acknowledging that in the ground scheme of life, one lecture really doesn't matter. 1)the kind of false cheerfulness(先行词)that(引导词)positive psychologists wouldn’t recommend 2)those(先行词)who(引导词)make the best of things that happen 3)the best of things(先行词)that(引导词)happen 4)those(先行词)who(引导词)believe everything happens for the best 5)there is perspective(先行词),which(引导词)involves acknowledging 并列句: 1)But that’s exactly the kind of false cheerfulness…(转折关系) 2)are those who…, but not those who…(表语之间的转折关系) 3)about what works and what doesn’t(介词宾语的并列关系)
