1)Which do you prefer to eat, lunch or dinner? Why?

I prefer to eat lunch. I usually have a good appetite during lunchtime. I will have a variety of

foods for lunch, which can provide different nutrients to my body. Besides, I don’t have to worry too much about getting fat if I eat some food of high calorie because I often do some exercises in the afternoon. According to some science research, one should not eat much during the dinner; otherwise, one will put on weight or have some problems with his stomach. So I often eat some vegetables and fruits at dinner.

2)Do you think there are any benefits from eating breakfast?

Sure, there are lots of benefits. Eating breakfast will provide your body with enough energy so that you can study or work more efficiently in the morning. I would say, eating breakfast is a must for a healthy diet. People who do not eat breakfast will be haunted by many kinds of diseases in their later years. Some people often skip breakfast in an effort to lose weight, but that's not a good idea. Skipping meals, especially breakfast, can actually make weight control more difficult. Breakfast skippers tend to eat more food than usual at the next meal, or nibble on high-calorie snacks to release hunger. There are some studies suggesting that people tend to add more body fat when they eat fewer, larger meals than when they eat the same number of calories in smaller and regular meals.

3)Are you willing to try some new food?

Yes. I always like trying new food. Nowadays, food is far more than something that fills our stomachs. Different kinds of food stand for different cultures. For example, the popular TV program named A Bite of China represents our marvellous Chinese food culture. I believe new food stands for a new culture. New food also means a new life. I like experiencing new life, just as I like tasting new food. As a southerner, I felt very excited to try many kinds of northern food when I first went to Beijing. Since then I fell in love with many delicious foods there.

I would prefer to eat several small snacks. Big meals are usually the same except slight

differences. But snacks are of different features and tastes. It is a special experience to taste different small snacks without getting too full. Especially when I arrived at a new place, I would like to try some local snacks. That was amazing.

5)What do you consider to be a healthy diet?

I would think a healthy diet should first include adequate nutrition that the body needs. We

usually consider such nutrients as protein, fat, vitamin, minerals, and fibre when we talk about nutrition. A healthy diet should include some food that can give the body enough energy and other kinds of food that can provide sufficient fibre. Some people would say that a healthy diet should exclude those foods of high calorie. Actually, as long as the calorie you take from food provides adequate energy to your body, the diet is healthy. The pre-requisite is that you should keep a balanced diet.

6)Do you know how to make (prepare) a meal?

Yes, I often cook delicious food. Making meals for my family is really a great pleasure. For example, in Spring Festival, my family will prepare a feast for the big family, including my grandparents, my uncles, aunts and their children. I will cook some dishes and as well as help my parents to do the cooking. Knowing that my family enjoy the food makes me extremely happy.

1)Are there many museums in your hometown?

Positive: Yes, I often visit museums in different cities. Museums in those cities usually

provide exhibitions about the local history, art and many other aspects of life. These days, many museums vary their ways of presenting their exhibitions by involving visitors in some interactive activities. This gives visitors very special experience. Visitors not only learn much through the visit but also enjoy it. So I often visit museums when I go to a new city.

Negative: Well, to be honest, I haven't been to any museum before. But I hear there is a very famous museum in London, named British Museum. So I suppose if I had a chance, I would go there to have a look.

2)Do you think museums are useful for visitors to your hometown?

Of course they are very useful. Museums are the best places for visitors to understand and appreciate the culture of Suzhou. As a world famous scenic spot, Suzhou is one of the best representatives of Chinese classic culture. And the museums in Suzhou will offer the visitors

a window to understand and appreciate Chinese culture. Every day, numerous visitors across

the world are paying a visit to these museums, and I think they will find the visit very useful and interesting.

Well, I should say it would be a good idea for the museums to sell things related to the exhibitions to visitors. Visitors can keep them as souvenirs or sending them as gifts to friends.

For those non-profit museums, they would have a larger budget to improve their conditions and services if they can increase their income by selling things to visitors. However, there are some museums selling some products at a high price to visitors. I would think it’s not suitable, because museums are mainly for the public interest.

Yes. There are a lot of parks near my house/ near my school/ in my hometown. These parks usually provide different equipments for people work out or take a rest. They help people to develop a healthy lifestyle.

2)How often do you go there?

Well, that depends. It only takes me five minutes to walk to the park near the place where I live. So I usually go to the park three times a week. But I may not go there for a period of time if I’m too busy. There are lots of trees and flowers in the park. I can enjoy the scenery by walking along the zigzag paths and trails.

3)What do you (like to) do when you go to a park or public garden?

I usually go to the park for a walk with my friends, enjoying the fresh air or just getting close

to nature. But there are also times when I go there to do some exercises with the sports equipment in the park. I also work out in the park. I should say going to the park on a regular basis is a good way to relax myself and keep me healthy.

4)What do other people do in these places?

People of different ages will do different things in the parks. Senior people often do some light exercises, play chess or chat with friends, sing songs, practice dancing, etc. Children will play games, play on a swing, fly the kite or anything that is fun. Some people in their middle age will try to do exercises to keep fit.

5)Do you think parks and public gardens are important to a city?

Certainly, I think parks and public gardens are really an important part of a city. They provide

a place for people at any age to relax, enjoy the leisure time and get close to nature.

Meanwhile, they play an important role in the ecological system of a city. The parks can add greenbelts to a city, increase the humidity, and also make a city more beautiful.

6)Do you think every city and town should have parks and public gardens?

Yes, it would be a good idea to build parks and public gardens in cities and towns. That will improve the environment quality of the city or town. On the other hand, since the parks can provide places to relax or do exercises, the quality of people’s life will also be improved accordingly.

What kind of place is it? My hometown is a small place, just outside of Beijing. It takes about an hour to reach/get to there. The people there are mostly farmers, but a lot of the young people work in Beijing. It's a quiet place and I like it. 6. Could you tell me something about your hometown? a. Well, it's quite big and it's the capital of Shanxi province. The population's about 6 million and it's famous for its historic sites, especially for the Terracotta Warriors. Xi' an used to be the capital of China, and it's the beginning of the famous Silk Road. b. Okay. Well, my hometown is Beijing and I live just outside of it near the 4th ring road. As you probably know, Beijing's the political and cultural center of China, and it's quite a historical place as well. It's huge-about 12 or 13 million people live in it now-and it seems to be getting bigger every year. 7. What kind of landscape surrounds your hometown? a. Harbin's right near the Song Hua Jiang River and it's kind of in a flat area, with mountains in the distance. b. Indio's a coastal city near the sea, so the main landscapes are the beaches and bays. There are also some nice hills nearby. 8. What are the main tourist attractions in your hometown? There's the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. These are the two that are most well known. They are also symbols of China. They attract most visitors, but there are quite a lot of other famous sites as well. 9. What are the people like in your hometown? They're usually very friendly, but a bit conservative. People still hold onto a lot of old customs and traditions, which is what I mean by conservative. But I think people there are very hospitable and kind. If you ask someone for directions, they'll always try to help you out, or find someone else who can. 10. What places in your hometown do you like best and tell me why? I like the Temple of Heaven best because it's very beautiful. It has a lot of space and there are lots of really nice and old trees there. In the early morning, it's very peaceful.
