1 Some people think that lawbreakers should be sent to prison. However, others think that better talents among those should be made to work. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

As repeated crimes occur increasingly, how to reform criminals has given rise to a debate. Certainly, prison is the place for them to be punished and reformed. But other measures are also needed to achieve an optimal result for them and the society as well.

It is undeniable that putting criminals into prison would contribute to a lower crime rate. Primarily, as offenders are isolated from the society when they are in prison, they cannot threaten the social security any more. Longer prison term would also be a serious warning for potential criminals //However, this way of punishment means that more prisons and man power as well as other resources are required, which can be a huge cost for the government. Besides, after being isolated from the society for a really long time, offenders would find it very hard to re-entry the society and this may force them to commit crime again. Hence, it is better to find alternative ways to deal with criminals. Vocational training and academic education aimed at prisoners are promising ones. These measures could help equip those behind bars with job skills and become independent economically after they are set free. They would find the opportunity to escape the cycle of violence and poverty utterly. For those criminals with special talents, working is a better way to reform them because they may have chance to realize their value to the society and regain self-respect and self-confidence. These approaches would make a difference in criminal rehabilitation, and

generate a better effect than simply throwing offenders behind the iron bars. Overall, I do not deny the function of prison in punishing felons10 and deterring12 crime. However, this cannot turn them into law abiding13 members without the aid of other measures, such as education, training and working.

2 Lectures were used to be a way to teach large number of students, but with the technology available for education, there is no longer justification for lectures. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Although lectures are normally used to teach students knowledge, there has been an argument that students no longer need to attend lectures, due to the development of technology. Personally, I think that lectures deserve a place in the education system.

Instead of attending lectures, people can depend on computers and the internet to improve learning outcomes. One benefit of using social networking websites is that they can keep the pace of learning by themselves and manage to make the most of time and resources. This educational model is important especially for those people who have work commitment s. They are likely to outperform in the related area easier. Another approach to replace lectures is to register for online courses, and this can help people pursue a higher educational qualification. Online courses provide people with opportunities to gain access to knowledge without paying educational expenses. In this way, they are more likely to pursue a university degree, especially for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. [ Can’t afford to a further education]

On the other hand, attending lectures plays an inevitably role in preparing people for their future career. It offers an environment where students are encouraged to communicate with each other and build up a network of contacts, which is beneficial to improving their interpersonal skills. This can help them make a transition to the workplace.

To summaries, I believe that attending lectures remains the most important way for students to acquire new knowledge and achieve good performance,

although technology and the internet are likely to make learning more easily.

3 Nowadays, most countries improve the standard of living through economic development. But some social values are lost as a result. Do you think the advantages of the phenomenon outweigh the disadvantages?

Nowadays, it is a common phenomenon that economic development in many countries has resulted in a negative change to social values. In my opinion, the disadvantages of values degradation outweigh the positives brought by economic growth.

Admittedly, increased economic development has improved people's lives drastically. People now have more disposable income than at any point during history which has given them the freedom to follow their passions. For example, the rise of niche hobbies can be attributed to people having more economic freedom. However, this has come at cost. For instance, clothes in good condition are now disposed of for people to pursue the latest fashion design, as the virtue of frugality is seen as a negative within society because people now trend towards materialism. I believe, this shows economic prosperity does not outweigh the loss of social values.

In regard to social values, a lack of good values has created a cruel and hostile environment in some parts of the world, which has led to increased crime and chaos. The USA, for example, is seeing record incarceration rates, which is also undoing some of the achievement of economic growth. Moreover, the focus on economic development has also led to a lack of social awareness for protecting environment and endangered animals in the name of making money, Lastly,

others tend to be less friendly towards others as they find it is unnecessary to offer help as they pursue economic development over building community bonds. Overall, these examples show the enormous impact that the loss of values is having on society,

To conclude, economic development has helped increase the standard of living and has given people more freedom. However, I believe this is vastly outweighed by the loss of social values which has helped contribute towards increased crime and environmental erosion.

4 Surveys show that people are living longer in many countries. But increased life expectancy has many implications for aging individuals and for society as a whole. What are the possible effects of longer living for individuals and society?

Population ageing has emerged as a global phenomenon in the wake of the now virtually universal decline in fertility and increases in life expectancy. Many countries are confronted with new demographic realities that spread from the cities to the villages. In my opinion, more problems than benefits will surface with this trend.

Admittedly, older people often have time to offer for the benefit of family and the community. Nowadays, the young tend to rely on the older generation for household chores. It is also reported that time devoted to voluntary work and care is at its height within the age groups over 55. Such devotion adds greatly to the community well-being, if not to the GDP.

Population ageing, however, brings about serious economic and social problems. When the number of workers decreases, the national income goes

in the later years of their life, an ageing population causes a relative rise in the public resources required for pensions, health and residential care outlays. Moreover, with an ageing population, the problems associated with the "sandwich generation", people who have both children and parents to look after, have gained increasing prominence. Members of this "in-between" generation are often torn between the needs of raising children, caring for ageing parents and job responsibilities.

To sum up, population ageing is an inevitable prospect, the negative effects of which outweigh the positive. As ageing is a normal part of lifecycle for human beings, we must recognize its challenges to our life and society, and work on effective strategies to minimize its adverse influences.

5 Some people think it is more important to plant more trees in open areas in towns and cities than provide more housing. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

With the expansion of urbanization, the utilization of city land has been a spot issue. It is argued that more open areas are more suitable to be distributed to vegetation, but others hold different opinion, reckoning that it should be occupied with buildings. In my view, the balance between these two sides is needed.

Undoubtedly, [admittedly]greener would beautify our living environment thus making it more comfortable to dwell in. As well as the city decoration, trees are useful to absorb dust from the transportation such as waste gas emitted from vehicles. Their function of breathing out oxygen and breathing in carbon dioxide would dramatically alleviate greenhouse gas problems. So, all these factors contribute to the protection of ecosystem and people's health. Providing people with more pedestrian areas is another benefit. Due to this, walk would be more possible in the urban cities.

However, reaching the conclusion that trees are conductive for a city does not mean that constructions are not important. Adequate residential districts ease the intense situation of high housing price while multi-story buildings in city's business district give a facility to the accommodation of large number of working

isolates human beings from the nature, so it is justified of the government to strike a balance housing and planting expansion.

In conclusion, planting trees and construction more buildings are not mutually

exclusive, it is the combination of the two that offers a more functional city for people to live in.

6 The movement of people from agricultural areas to cities to work can cause serious problems in both places. What are the serious problems? What measures can be used to solve these problems?

Over the recent years many countries worldwide have seen an increase in the number of people moving from rural areas to urban areas for the sake of a job. This trend can lead to[contribute to] social and economic problems. This movement can be reduced to a large extent by improving the standards of rural areas.

Firstly, migration of people from agricultural areas to urban areas can lead to over population in cities. Over population in urban areas can cause lack of adequate housing and this could result in destruction of forests and building up of multistory buildings. Moreover, moving to cities can lead to lack of basic facilitates and environmental pollution. An increase in city population would result in increased number of vehicles and this causes air pollution. For example, it is evident from the recent that the air pollution is increasing at an alarming rate I cities. Additionally, movement of people from agricultural areas of cities can cause unemployment. These are some of the effects of urbanization. Secondly, movement of people from agricultural areas would result in depletion of farming. As people move from rural areas to urban areas for jobs, there won't be anybody to do farming. This will result in decreased food production. For instance, as a result of urbanization now a days Kerala is depending on other states for rice and vegetables, which were produced abundantly in past.

However, migration of people from rural areas to urban areas can be reduced to

large extent by numerous measurements from governments, who play a major role in controlling urbanization. For instance, providing more job opportunities and also basic facilities such as transportation, water, electricity and so forth in the

are helpful in controlling urbanization as well.

In conclusion, urbanization can be controlled to a large extent by improving the standards of villages. Government has a great role in controlling the migration of people from agricultural areas to urban areas.

7 Some people think that in this modern world people are getting dependent on each other, while others think the modern world makes people more independent of each other. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

1在一个后工业时代,每一个社会个体都被教育和训练在某一个领域精通,这意味着他们的工作必须依赖其他同事和行业的合作;

Should the level of interdependence between people of today be up or down? This question has been a heated social issue in debate, and resulted in opposite views among the public. Personally, I believe current human is more independent than before, and my reasons will be explored as below.

In terms of information communication, the thriving Internet today has reduced the level of pe ople’s connection with others, because this technology can provide more abundant, timely and objective information to every social individual. In other words, modern people are used to relying on the Internet for the acquirement of news, knowledge, social experience and even answers of school tasks, rather than face-to-face questioning, talking or discussing with others. Therefore, the common interdependent human relationships, such as the ones between students and teachers, between children and parents, between the youth

and elders, are fading.

Machinery automation has also contributed much to the independence of people, because this technology makes people self-sufficient.For example, by using artificial intelligent devices like Auto Teller Machine, Vending Machine, microwave ovens, sweeping robots and face recognition access control system, people can deal with day-to-day transactions and household chores, or obtain common goods and services by themselves, with no more reliance on service personals, such as clerks in shops, tellers in bank counters, chefs in restaurants, or doormen in the gateway.

However, the main reason why people become more dependent is about the specialization in the post-industry age. Today, every social individual has been educated and trained to be expert at only one certain field. That is why a contemporary employee needs the technological communication and cooperation with co-workers in other departments or with other companies in different subjects, for the purpose of accomplishing the whole working project. Similarly, daily-life running and management are far beyond the limitation of any

who provide food, news, transportation, entertainment and maintenance of facilities.

In conclusion, I strongly believe the increasing independence of people is dramatic and should not be ignored. Although we are becoming specialized in narrow directions of careers, we have more independence and self-sufficiency, by the support of the Internet and automatic technologies.

8 Some people believe that parents have a great influence on the children’s growth but influence from the outside plays a more important role. Do you agree or disagree?

The development of children depends on many factors, including parents, school education, media, peers and so forth. Personally, I agree that the family is less influential than other aspects working together, and my reasons would be explored as below.

Admittedly, the influence of family on children is very deep, because parents, primary teachers in the life of children, set the first role models for them to learn and imitate, and which would be logged into the impressionable childhood mind and determine basic behaviors and thinking of them. For example, by observing and learning the daily activities of parents, like speaking, cooking and house cleaning, washing hands before eating, a child can master the language, self-care ability and hygienic habits. Besides, parents also play a key role in developing the intelligence of children. For instance, with day-to-day teaching, communication and storytelling, a parent can help a child to improve cognitive skills like basic mathematic calculation, memorizing, reading, and thinking and judging in a proper way.

However, I strongly believe outside-of-home elements make greater contributions to the overall growth of children. Firstly, in terms of academic education, teachers in school have priority over parents. For example, compared with some parent who have low-level or even no education, teachers are professionally educated and trained in formal university, and well-experienced in teaching. That is to say, school teachers are more advantageous and influential, in terms of comprehensively and accurately instructing, explaining and demonstrating common knowledge about laws of nature and universe, theories and formulas of math and physics, and events and people in history. What is more, forming social skills also relies on a school environment where children have opportunities to communicate, play and argue with other peers. This strong interpersonal interaction can make children proficient in real-world socialization. Besides, mass media is another external factor affecting children’s development. For example, violent video on the Internet, TV programs and computer games are very likely to twist social values of the young audience, because children, unlike adults, are lack of abilities to distinguish right from wrong. Therefore, with long-term exposure to ill information, children would be rude, aggressive and s elf-eccentric. As a result, they, more often than not, consider violence as the main or even only way to solve problems, thereby leading to school bullying.

In conclusion, when it comes to the importance in influencing children, other aspects like teachers in school and media override the parents, for the reasons that the formers have incomparable effects on the education, social skills and personalities of children.

9 Some people think people working in creative arts should be financially supported by the government. Others think they should find financial support from other resources. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

N owadays, people’s living standard has been greatly improving and citizens have more needs in spiritual fulfillment and it has been a hot debate over whether the government should financially support those artists or not. As far as I concerned, those people who devote themselves in creative arts should be supported by both government and other resources although there might be some concerns about the opposite view.

Governments have responsibility and capability to provide adequate funds in the construction of artistic projects like concert halls, theaters, cinemas and art galleries. If they fail to play a role in financially supporting creative arts, citizens in

no way will make any contributions. The consequence is that people cannot appreciate those artworks and even the next generation would become materialistic, self-centered and less creative. In addition, creative arts, as an essential part of contemporary art and culture, need governments’ financial aids to be flourishing and thriving. while arts otherwise would develop slowly even do not progress due to insufficient supports, which is definitely a huge loss to both the general public and the whole country. therefore, only those governments who are willing to facilitate the development of arts are able to create an active, enthusiastic and productive community.

It is true that artists may support themselves through some commercial activities or charity programs, but in fact, they cannot fully rely on those donations which may not last long periods of time and under huge pressure, they may be restricted in expressing emotions and creating artworks. This consequently undermines artists’ enthusiasm and prevents them from creating high-quality artworks.

To sum up, if joint efforts from both governments and other resources are made to fund those who are engaged in the field of art, chances are that the artists will be better-off and create more valuable masterpieces that can elevate people's spiritual world.

10 Some people think governments should spend money looking for life on other planets, while others think that there are many unsolved problems on earth. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Currently, some countries are investing massive amounts of money in seeking the planets with life forms. Some are convinced that this may benefit the future of humans. However, despite some possible benefits, I agree more that public funding should be used to improve the lives of ordinary people.

There are many practical reasons why governments should fund space research. The biggest concern is that population explosion leads to the overconsumption of some valuable resources and the deterioration of environment, and humans need to locate some planets where there are rich resources for human settlement in the future. Another reason is that earth has been under the threat from outer space. For example, a giant meteoroid may clash with earth and cause the extinction of humans. Thus to secure mankind's future, people need to spot and colonize terrestrial planets with air, water, vegetation and life.

However, some opponents argue that the investment should be saved for improving problems on earth, such as illness, poverty and wars. This is because the money invested does not yield a satisfying outcome and it is impossible for all people to move to a suitable planet even if it can be found in the far future. // With the budget allocated and diverted to supporting some fields with serious problems, these emergencies could be solved or at least improved. For example, new drugs could be invented, a better medical system could be designed and offered, and an easier access to medical services could be obtained. Clearly, this will contribute to longer life expectancy and alleviating patients' pains.

it is still impossible for human beings to move to these earth-like planets. In my opinion, governments should pay more attention to addressing the urgent needs of the world today.

11 Advertising discourages people from being different individuals by making us all want to do the same and look the same. To what extent do you

agree or disagree?

Today, many commercial advertisements can be seen everywhere, selling different kinds of products such as cosmetics, toys and clothes. Some people concern that the widespread of advertisements may result in the loss of individuality among people, as they tend to wear the same clothes and use the same makeup. From my perspective, I completely disagree with this viewpoint. [完全不同意] Admittedly, people from different walks of life have various consumption views. However, most people would budget their disposable income wisely instead of wasting all in a set of clothes without serious consideration. Therefore, despite the proliferation of the commercial advertisements for the same luxury product, people would make decisions of buying or not according to their limited income. 1收入限制//Also, people capable of distinguishing whether the clothes in the advertisement suit themselves or not. Being exposed in a sea of advertisements for long, people's immune systems towards advertisements have strengthened. Consequently, fewer people would be swayed by the gorgeous clothes in the advisements as they realize that most clothes on advertisements only suit for models but not for the average. 3看多广告产生免疫力,能分别适不适合自己//Furthermore, so many different advertisements are provided for people's option that it is fairly difficult to be the same with others. Take clothes for example. There are various styles, ranging from classical to modern, childish to mature, conservative to sexy. Therefore, people still could choose their favorite style to meet their demand.3广告也有不同的,会贴合不同人群的需求(广告是人类需求的衍生品ads derive from the demands of different types of people)To conclude, due to the multi-choice of advertisement and people's wise budget, people would not lose their individualities under the strong promotion of the same product in the advertisement.

12 Many countries believe that international tourism has harmful effects. Why do they think so? What can be done to change their views?【

International tourism has been encouraged in many nations around the globe because it produces positive effects on economic growth and local government. However, some problem, which accounts for why some people hold negative

attitudes toward international tourism

The reasons why some people hold indifferent attitudes toward international tourism are manifold.First, a large flowing population many cause serious destruction of the natural environment in those areas owing rich tourism resources. 1破坏生态环境//Further, som e visitors’ unconscious behaviors might be considered as disrespectable and unfriendly due to the cultural differences. For instance, questions about religious beliefs, marriage, personal income are

considered as taboo for some westerners.

sightseers might make the locals’ purse heavy, they, at the same time, interfere with the peaceful current life in some areas.3干扰平静生活//

In spite of some demerits triggered by promoting international tourism, the glaring merits can be cited to alter some people’s cold attitudes. First, tourism is one of the most stimulating factors to spur the economy. For example, China needs a great amount of foreign currencies for its modernization drive. Tourism is one of the most significant ways to obtain such currencies. 1促进国家经济&外币流入//Also, it a business that could provide numerous job opportunities. In the tourist attractions, it is common to that even those uneducated people can make a living simply by selling souvenirs, local specialties and so on, which relieves the employment pressure of local government. To illustrate, tourism facilities the development of the catering business and local public transit. 2促进就业//Last, tourism is positive to cultural diversity and could promote the mutual understanding and friendships among people from diverse countries, thus, it will create the future cooperation in the international affairs.3促进国际友谊合作// In a nutshell, my stand is that whether the effect of international travel is positive or negative, one thing is certain that it will continue to be indispensable part for both visitors and relevant nations; therefore, international tourism should be advocated. To ordinary people, traveling is definitely one of the most

effective ways to relieve pressure and expand mind. As for many nations, promoting tourism is a powerful force to spur domestic demand and booms the economy.

13 Many museums and historical sites are mainly visited by tourists and not local people. Why is the case? What can be done to attract local people?

It is common for tourists to visit museums and historical sites when they travel to a city, but an interesting phenomenon is noticed that few of the visitors to these places are local people. In this passage, I would like to address several underlying reasons and measurements which can help to resolve it/ present some recommendations.

The reasons why tourists are attracted by museums or historical sites are manifold. One main purpose of travelling is to broaden people’s horizons and visiting museums and historical sites is an easy way to get the information about

the city’s history and customs. This is why tourists coming from other cities show interest in visiting these places and many tourists would put this activity in their agenda. //By contrast, local people seem to be less interested in museums and historical spots, perhaps because they think they already know too much about their city, or they are too busy to pay a visit. The fact is that they would rather go to the cinema or to the park, which is more relaxing than visiting a museum. However, a lot of measurements could be done to make visiting museums and historical places more diversified and interesting to local people. For example, the museums can hold exhibitions of different themes regularly. These events can be publicized in local newspapers and try to make more people informed. //In addition, museums and historical sites are recommended to remain a stable cooperation with schools who can organize group visits while benefit their students at the same time as students can consolidate their knowledge from textbooks by visiting science or art museums. //Besides, students can also be encouraged to take their parents together. This enables family members to spend quality time on the weekend and also gives them interesting topics to discuss.

In conclusion, museums and historical sites reflect the cultural identity of a city and it is understandable that they are attractive to tourists. We can also take some measures to increase their appeal to local people.

14Nowadays, people in some countries can choose to live and work anywhere they want because of the improvement in transportation and communication technologies. Discuss the benefits and the drawbacks of the phenomenon.

Unlike those who live in one specific place for generations, more people in modern world can live and work wherever they want due to the development of communication technology and This essay will discuss both of these points of view and outline my own opinion.

Admittedly, benefits of living or working in a self-chosen place with the help of improved transportation and communication technologies are numerous. 1不必去单位上班,可以减少通勤时间,因此可以减轻交通压力;

However,坏处:

1在家工作往往因为各种干扰而效率不高;

2同时因为不住单位附近,与领导同事的面对面交流机会可能大量减少,从而导致很多业务机会和晋升机会的失去;

15 Online shopping is now replacing shopping in the store. Do you think it is

a positive or negative development?

Shopping at home used to be a dream of ours, but now it has become a reality in our life thanks to the rapid development of the Internet. Many people today prefer online shopping rather than going to stores.

Online shopping has many advantages, especially when it is compared with the store shopping. Firstly, online shopping caters for those who are occupied by busy work as it is considerably convenient with simply a few clicks to order almost everything we need from clothes to books and from electric appliances to air tickets.//Furthermore, it can help people who live in the most advanced city on the country to save money by providing products which are much cheaper as they resembled the national average price level instead of the price level in one city. //Most important, it has become a major source of income for a country, while it can boost the consumption demand from people along with providing more career opportunities including positions in logistic or online service industry. However, it is also undeniable that online shopping can create problems at the same time. To begin with, as the transaction of goods and services are invisible to customers, there are potential risks that the delivering products might go astray on their half way. //Another point added to it is that people can be easily enticed by the advertisements on the website or apps and lead to impulse consumption which results in buying items that are not quite demanding. //Last but not least, unlike the store shopping, online deprives us of the opportunities to spend a quality time together with our family members.

To sum up, the Internet does provide us with a new and convenient way of

shopping, yet I suggest that online stores can hardly replace the role of shopping centers due to the unique shopping experience being provided by the later.

Topic 1: When international media (including movies, fashion shows, advertisements and other TV programs) convey the same messages to the global audience, people argue that the expansion of international media has negative impacts on cultural diversity. What is your opinion? 国际媒体(global media)—般掌握在少数几个有实力的机构手中(in the hands of a few, large, powerful organizations);有了媒体的宣传(propaganda)后,西方文化成了主流(domineering force),大规模的、有吸引力的广告(mass seductive advertising )唤起了落后地区人们对物质新的向往(create fresh desires),经济联系增强(strong economic ties),西方产品取代了本地产品,使人们更加向往西方的文化; ?文化开始融合在一起(mingle),人们被新的价值观所围绕(bombarded with new values),对自己的文化失去信心和自豪感(confidence and pride),拒绝接受自己的文化传统(rejection of their cultural heritage)转而接受西方的文化习惯(adoption of Western cultural practices);西方媒体削弱了民族的特征(ethnic identity)和社会的凝聚力(social cohesion);因为担心失去观众(a loss of viewers),当地的电视台也开始播放西方的电视节目(television shows), ?国际媒体的普遍会降低世界文化的品质和多样性(degrade the quality and diversity of world culture);文化被商业化(commercialized), —些文化产品(cultural goods),如音乐、服装,都变成了商品(commodities in the marketplace)。 未必一定放弃传统观念(not necessarily lead to the abolition of traditional values),事实上媒体可以起到宣传和稳固传统文化的作用; ? (Most foreign programming is promoting cultural diversity.),适应了当地的条件(adapt to local conditions),注意到了当地文化的敏感性(aware of cultural sensitivity).自我调节来适应市场(exercise self-censorship to suit the market :)。 As international media companies expand across the world, the growing popularity and uniformity of some media programs (such as TV shows, movies, fashion shows) is causing worldwide concern. Many people have strong views toward this trend. In my opinion, international media is closely linked to cultural globalization and cultural homogeneity. The dominance of international media is a sign of Western cultural imperialism and has the potential to thwart cultural diversity. It is not a secret that international media is owned and operated by a handful of giant corporations, such as Time Warner. They control large sectors of the media market and place national media companies at risk. The contraction in the number of media owners will cause a proportional reduction, in the variety of programs broadcasted. For example, painting, music and movies accessible in the media have a small number of genres, imposing restraints on one's knowledge of artworks of different cultural backgrounds. In addition to seizing control over those creative industries, global entertainment companies affect cultural diversity by reshaping the perceptions, beliefs and norms of ordinary citizens in different countries. Most of the cultural values and ideals promoted by the leading mainstream media are of American origin. American culture values individuality, maximization of one's benefits and material wealth, rather than communal life and family solidarity, the values and norms previously treasured in" many Asian countries. Unfortunately, many Asian people now imitate American people, causing the alteration of their perceptions of family. This radical change can be attributed to those movies and TV programs that portray the success of American individuals or corporations.

Some people prefer to provide help and support directly to those in their local community who need it. Others, however prefer to give money to national and international charitable organizations. Discuss both views and give your opinion. Although people in industrialized countries lead a high standard of living, it is undeniable that there are still 1.2 billion people living below the poverty line. In order to solve poverty-related problems, I feel that all kinds of help should be encouraged and respected. Giving a helping hand to those who are in need in the local community seems reasonable. It is because even in the richest countries, there are still a lot of people, such as disabled people and orphanages, suffering from famine and extreme poverty. For this reason, it is easy and convenient for us to help our fellow citizens, such as donating food or clothing to them, so that we can see the result of our actions immediately. By contrast, it is rather difficult to track expenditure of international aids, which might result in corruption in some cases. Those who donate money to domestic and international charities believe that the collection of money has a tremendous effect on the poor countries compared with other forms of help. This is because few people are able to donate a large amount of money to construct schools, hospitals and roads in poor areas. Instead, governments and charities can achieve this. International aids can also purchase vaccines which are available in developed countries by using the money raised worldwide and save millions children’s life. In my view, minor proportion of donated money and other sorts of help should be appreciated equally as long as the money reaches to those who need it desperately. The government could run campaign and encourage door-to door help. At the same time, charitable organizations should make every penny count for donors.(word count:274)

Task:Some people think getting old is entirely bad. However, others think that life of the elderly in modern world is much easier than in the past. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Sample answer: Getting old is a natural process that nobody really likes. When you reach a certain age, your physical conditions will inevitably deteriorate, and you may suffer from various kinds of diseases. When you retire, you will feel isolated because your previous work contacts may be all gone, then you may feel useless to the world. Furthermore, when you get too old, you’ ll have to rely heavily on the support from others, either physically or emotionally, and your life will become a great pressure to your family and the whole society as well. For all these bad things about getting old, many people argue that the life of the elderly today is much easier than in the past. In the first place, medical advances nowadays have made it possible for the old people to stay sound and healthy for quite a long while even after they retire. Diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and heart attack which might have

Some people believe that charities should give aid to those who need the aid most, wherever they live. Some people believe that charity organizations would better concentrate on people in their own countries instead. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Concern about humanitarian assistance has been heightened in recent years. Although it illustrates a moral ideal of mankind, many people who hold opposing views think that the welfare of fellow citizens is the priority. International aid has its weaknesses but its importance should not be denied. The main reason why international donation agencies should view international aid from a global perspective is that their funds can help the citizens of those recipient countries to combat poverty, disease and inequality. We should first recognize that citizens of developing countries are in desperate need of aid, because they are susceptible to natural or man-made disasters such as wars. In those war-torn or poverty-stricken countries, where resources are scanty, there is a high demand for food, medicine tents and shelters. In addition, humanitarian action can restore some of their basic rights, such as the right to receive education. This is also consistent with the universal principle of supporting vulnerable populations. Those who cannot provide financial support can work as international volunteers and deliver services, such as training and medical service, to those needy people. Despite the heightened importance of international aid, people have discovered

As to whether they affect children negatively, there is an endless debate. Despite the fact that playing computer games is an effective way to relieve pressure, the problems associated with study and health cannot be neglected. Clearly, playing computer games is regarded as a main factor leading to poor academic performance. With the entertaining nature, computer games will easily distract children from their studious pursuits. With the passage of time, children will probably fall behind their peers in academic development. In addition, when children spend too much time playing computer games, they are less likely to participate in physical activities, which is one reason why many children suffer from obesity. As a result, these overweight children’s confidence may be undermined and their health may be negatively influence as well. Despite these disadvantages, the advantages can still not be ignored. First of all, the latest research shows that game-playing helps children to home their communication and interpersonal skills. In many cases, players work together in teams to achieve goals, competing against other players. Therefore, their social skills and teamwork spirit are put to the test. Also, computer games can have positive and therapeutic effects on players. Games provide an opportunity for children to decompress and tune out of strains and stresses of everyday life. Giving their time to rest is critical for emotional and mental well-being. In conclusion, it is not advisable for children to play computer games, for the reasons that it not only has a negative impact on their study, but also makes them lose confidence, although computer games provide a form of relaxation.

现以2008年11月15日的考题为例: there are more workers to work from home and more students to study from home. this is because the computer technology is more and more easily accessible and cheaper. do you think it is a positive or negative development?(题目为考生回忆,与 原题可能有少许出入) 通读题目,了解大意。

xx年雅思大作文范文 7,8月份,掐指一算,社会、生活和工作类题目闪现概率较大,今天范文依旧是工作类题目,推荐学习:雅思大作文每日范文(xx.4.11) Topic:With the wide use of puters and the Inter, people can study and work from home without going to school or pany. Do the advantages outweigh its disadvantages? 另外,时间安排会更灵活have a flexible schedule.

本篇范文用到了“剑8-1”的一些素材:学习的目的不只是学知识和获取信息education is not about learning information and acquiring knowledge only,还需要学习与人相处interact with their peers,学习尊敬老师respect their teachers,学习遵守纪律obey school rules,而这些都是远程教学distance learning所无法学到的。
