Direction: Listen to the passage three and fill in the blank with the missing word.(10 points) Listening is an important language skill. We must acquire this skill for success and enjoyment throughout our lives. Just think how much time we spend every day listening. We listen to the radio, television programs, concerts, tapes and disks. We also listen to teachers, friends, our family members and other people. The better we listen, the more we will succeed in our work and study.

Listening is basically the understanding of words and the relationship between sentences. Bad listeners only listen to separate words and separate sentences. The try to understand every word and every sentence. This is impossible even when we listen in our own language. A good student will constantly examine his listening habits so that he can find out his strengths and weaknesses. In this way he can improve his listening skills.

First they asked their neighbour Mrs. White for help. Then they called their colleague Mr. Black. But both of them said they would not be able to take Blackie. At last they found a dog care center which looked after dogs while their owners were away. The couple took Blackie there just before they left for their holiday, and sadly said goodbye to him.

At the end of their holiday, they got back to England very late at night, and as they thought the center might be closed at that late hour, they decoded to wait until the next day before going to get Blackie. So the next morning Mr. Green got into his car and drove off happily to collect him. When he reached home with the dog, he said to his wife, “Do you know, dear, I don’t think Blackie can have enjoyed his time at the center very much. He barked all the way home in the car as if he wanted to tell me something.”

Mrs. Green looked at the dog carefully and then answered,”You’re quite right, dear. He was certainly trying to tell you something. But he wasn’t trying to tell you that he hadn’t enjoyed his stay. He was only trying to t ell you that you were bringing the wrong dog home. This isn’t Blackie!”

It was an emergency, Barbara realized at once. She stopped her car and threw open the door. Thank goodness she was a nurse--she might be able to help. Without delay, she ran towards the

crash site. It was worse than she’d feared. Two girls of hight-school age were in the car. One, on the passenger seat, had been killed instantly. The driver, however, was still breathing. She was unconscious though. Barbara quickly applied pressure to the wound in the teenager’s head while her nurse’s eye took in the other injuries -- a broken leg, maybe two, along with probable internal bleeding. But if help came soon the girl might remain alive.

Meanwhile ,a truck had pulled up and the driver was calling for help on his cell phone. Soon Barbara heard the ambulance coming.A few moments later, rescue workers arrived. “Good job,” one said as he examined the girl’s wounds. “You’ve probably saved her life.”

Part c

Directions: Listen to the passage three times and fill in the blanks with the missing words.

(10points)

Everyone knows the value of money. If you have a lot of money, you can make yourself very comfortable by having a fine house to live in, fashionable clothes to wear and delicious food to eat. With money you can do whatever you like. Money is so important and so useful that people are naturally keen on possessing it.

But money can also be a source of evil. For the sake of money, some do not care about their means of getting it. They will steal, gamble, cheat and even kill to get money, profiting at the expense of their victims.

It is true that money can bring people happiness. With money the basic necessities can be provided for. With money the theatre and other places of entertainment can be enjoyed. But in my opinion the truly happy are those who make money through their work and live with their income. In short, money is important and useful but in itself it has little value if it does not give people real happiness.

There’s a lot of to learn about shopping. In my opinion not everyone is a good shopper. Some people spend a lot of time and money but bring back something not worth price they paid for it. Thus quarrels occur between husband and wives. So try to be a smart shopper.

Here are some tips.

First of all, before you go shopping, make a list of things that you are going to buy. It saves you time and keeps you from forgetting something.

Secondly, try to locate where you can buy these things and find our prices. To do this, you can buy a local newspaper and read th e “sale” section in the classified advertisements. Once you’ve found something that you want, call the store immediately and make sure that’s still there. Cheap things and things of value usually sell very quickly. So try to be the first one to reach the seller.

Thirdly, compare the prices of the same product in different stores, either by telephoning

or visiting them.

Lastly, it’s generally cheaper to shop in chain stores and supermarkets, Shops that remain open until quite late may charge rather higher prices in return for their longer hours for service.

33.What does the passage mainly tell us?(b)

34.What does the speaker say we should do first before shopping?(d)

Mark: That's why we're telling you about it. So that's decided then. Let's make a list of things we need to do. Kate: I'll do that. One of the first things we should do is choose the charity. Mark: Yes. And choose a day for the event. And we need to design the sponsorship form. I've got one here. Kate: That looks fine, but we must change the wording. Who wants to do that Mark: I'll do that. What have we got so far Kate: Choose a charity. Also a day for the event. Change the wording on the sponsorship form... Um ...

It's a 19th century children's story, isn't it K a te: That's right. It's very famous. It's set in Oxford. It starts with this young girl sitting on a river bank. The interesting thing is, the author, Lewis Carroll, he was an Oxford professor and he used to have tea with the girl's family on this river bank. Ja net: Oh, that's fascinating! I'll put it into my diary. Kate: Is that what you're writing I know you've been keeping a diary all the year. Janet: It's been a great year. Kate: You were talking in your sleep. Janet: What was I saying Kate: "Stupid, stupid." M ark: I've sorted out your computer. Janet: Have you Oh, thank goodness! Kate: You're such a good friend. Unit 6-Outside view Computers are a very important part of our lives. They tell us about delays to transport. They drive trains, analyze evidence and control buildings. Did you know that 60 per cent of homes in Britain have got a PC (a personal computer) For many young people, playing computer games is their favorite way of spending spare time. Computers are a very important part of most areas of life in Britain-libraries, the police and in school. But they are becoming more important in our homes as well. They’ll even control the way we live-in “smart homes” or computer-controlled houses. The smart home is now a real possibility. It will become very common. A central computer will adjust the temperature, act as a burglar alarm and switch on lights, ready for you to come back home. And of course you will be able to give new instructions to the computer from your mobile phone. So if your plans change, your home will react to match. Many homes have got lots of televisions and several computers. The smart home will provide TV and Internet sockets in every room, so you’ll be able to do what you want whenever you want. If the temperature outside changes, the smart home will adjust the temperature levels inside. The computer will also close the blinds when it gets dark or to stop so much sun from entering a room. And if you want to eat when you get home, the computer will turn the oven on for you! Are computers taking over our lives In a survey, 44 per cent of young people between 11 and 16 said their PC was a trusted friend. Twenty per cent said they were happier at their computer than spending time with family or friends. Another survey found that people in Britain spend so much time on the phone, texting and reading emails that they no longer have time for conversation. What do you think about that Unit 6-Listening in

全新版大学英语第二版听说教程第三册听力原文及答案 Unit 1 Text 1 Dating with My Mother (Part One) After 22 years of marriage, I have discovered the secret to keep love alive in my relationship with my wife, Peggy. I started dating with another woman. It was Peggy's idea. One day she said to me, 'Life is too short, you need to spend time with the people you love. You probably won't believe me, but I know you love her and I think that if the two of you spend more time together, it will make us closer.' The 'other' woman my wife was encouraging me to date is my mother, a 72-year-old widow who has lived alone since my father died 20 years ago. Right after his death, I moved 2,500 miles away to California and started my own life and career. When I moved back near my hometown six years ago, I promised myself that I would spend more time with mom. But with the demands of my job and three kids, I never got around to seeing her much beyond family get-togethers and holidays. Mom was surprised and suspicious when I called and suggested the two of us go out to dinner and a movie. 'What's wrong?' she asked. 'I thought it would be nice to spend some time with you,' I said. 'Just the two of us.' 'I would like that a lot,' she said. When I pulled into her driveway, she was waiting by the door with her coat on. Her hair was curled, and she was smiling. 'I told my lady friends I was going out with my son, and they were all impressed. They can't wait to hear about our evening,' Mother said. Exercise 1: 1. c 2. a 3.b Questions: 1. Text 2 Dating with My Mother (Part Two) We didn't go anywhere fancy, just a neighborhood place where we could talk. Since her eyes now see only large shapes and shadows, I had to read the menu for both of us. 'I used to be the reader when you were little,' she said.

Unit 1 Starting out Outside view Julie My name's Julie Dearden, and I'm the Director of International Programmes here at Hertford College. Eugene My name's Eugene Berger, I studied here in Oxford for four years er, studying modern languages at Somerville College. Julie Oh, there are many Oxford traditions. Oxford is a very old university, the oldest English-speaking university in the, in the world. And so there are many traditions which are associated with the colleges, with the times of the year, and with sport, and with eating, for example. Eugene Each college is very different um, from um, the others, and it has its own character. Some colleges are very conservative, and some are much more liberal and have a tradition of um, kind of liberal politics. But there are also some specific traditions. Julie Formal Hall is when we all eat together here in college, the professors and the students. Usually it takes places at seven o'clock in the evening, and the professors sit on high table which is the table over here, and the students sit on common table, which are the tables here. But everybody eats together. It's a very beautiful evening because there are, there's a special meal and we eat by candlelight. Eugene I think er, the traditions that make Oxford so unique are firstly the Oxford Union and er, secondly, May Day. The Oxford Union being a debating society where speakers come from all around the world to address the students and even allow themselves to be questioned by the students, making it a very interesting forum. Julie My favourite is er, May Day. And May Day is the first day of May, and we have a tradition called May Morning, and on May Morning everybody gets up very early and the students have a celebration. There is a choir which sings on top of the tower at Magdalen College and all the people of the town and all the students go to listen to the singing. So it's very nice. Eugene The tradition that er, was most important to me was probably Summer Eights. I was a rower. And Summer Eights is a rowing competition, held in May in the summer term. And in this competition, each college is trying to improve its place which it won the previous year and gradually work its way up the river. Julie When the students take exams, they must go to a special building and it's called Examination Schools. And also they must wear a special uniform, so they wear E.gown like mine, a black gown, and they wear a white shirt, arid the men wear a white tie and black trousers. The women wear a white shirt and a black skirt or black trousers. And they must wear this uniform, which has a Latin name - sub fuse — and they must wear this uniform in order to take their examinations. Eugene I think the Oxford traditions lend character to the place and it's such an old institution, it should have traditions, but they can be very inconvenient. For example, sub fuse. This is the uniform that we are required according to the university rules, to wear. Julie They also wear flowers in their buttonholes, and those flowers are carnations. And they wear different colours, the students wear different coloured flowers for different examinations. So when you take your first exam you wear a white flower, and when you take your second exam you wear a pink flower, and when you take your final examination you wear a red carnation. Eugene So we have to dress up in a full black suit, starched collar, white bow tie and carry a mortarboard. And to write an exam in the summer heat whilst wearing all that which you're not allowed to take off is um, uncomfortable. Julie I really like the Oxford traditions, I think it's part of our history, and part of um, being a student or a teacher here at Oxford University. Listening in Passage 1 Interviewer Can you tell me something about the Ivy League? You're a professor at Harvard, is that right?
