remembering that you are going to die is the best way i know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. you are already naked. there is no reason not

to follow your heart.

there are these two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says, "morning, boys. hows the water?" and the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes, "what the hell is water?"

... simple awareness; awareness of what is so real and essential, so hidden in plain sight all around us, all the time, that we have to keep reminding ourselves over and over:

"this is water."

"this is water."

it is unimaginably hard to do this, to stay conscious and alive in the adult world day in and day out.

you must believe in yourself and in your work. when our first batman movie broke all those box-office records, i received a phone call from that united artists exec who, years before, had told me i was out of my mind. now he said, "michael, im just calling to congratulate you on the success of batman. i always said you were a visionary." you see the point here - dont believe them when they tell you how bad you are or how terrible your ideas are, but also, dont believe them when they tell you how wonderful you are and how great your ideas are. just believe in yourself and youll do just fine. and, oh yes, dont then forget to market yourself and your ideas. use both sides of your brain.

you must have a high threshold for frustration. take it from the guy who was turned down by every studio in hollywood. you must knock on doors until your knuckles bleed.

doors will slam in your face. you must pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and knock again. its the only way to achieve your goals in life.

number one: fall in love with the process and the results will follow.

number two: do your work.

number three: once youre prepared, throw your preparation in the trash.

number four: you are capable of more than you think.

number five: listen.

number six: take action.

you have a choice. you can either be a passive victim of circumstance or you can be the active hero of your own life. action is the antidote to apathy and cynicism and despair.

it doesnt matter whether your dream came true if you spent your whole life sleeping. ask yourself one question: if i didnt have to do it perfectly, what would i try? nobody else is paying as much attention to your failures as you are. youre the only one who is obsessed with the importance of your own life. to everyone else, its just a blip on the radar screen, so just move on.

bumblebees are the most persistent creatures. they dont know they cant fly, so they just keep buzzing around.

never give in to pessimism. dont know that you cant fly, and you will soar like an eagle. dont end up regretting what you did not do because you were too lazy or too frightened to soar. be a bumblebee! and soar to the heavens. you can do it.

do one thing at a time. give each experience all your attention. try to resist being distracted by other sights and sounds, other thoughts and tasks, and when it is, guide your mind back to what youre doing.

im not warning against learning many things on many subjects. my warning is against distraction, whether you invite it or just let it happen. in baseball, high-percentage hitters know better: its "focus" they talk about, and they prize it as much as strength. psychologists describe skilled rock climbers and tennis players and pianists as going beyond focus, to what they have called a "flow" experience, a sense of absorption

with the rock or the ball or the music in which the "me versus it" disappears and theres a kind of oneness with the task that brings a joyful higher awareness, as well as successful performance. ive had these experiences, too little but not too late, and probably you have, too. they are a supreme kind of pleasure. you will have more of them if you do one thing at a time.

so, how do you get it? what is the secret to developing your own brand of self-confidence?

first, you must resolve to grow intellectually, morally, technically, and professionally every day through your entire work and family life. you need to ask yourself every day: am i really up to speed or falling behind? am i still learning? or am i just doing the same stuff on a different day or as otis redding sings, "sitting on the dock of the bay... watching the tide roll away?"

the lust for learning is age-independent.

another important way to build your confidence is to seek out the toughest jobs, the most daunting scientific, engineering or management challenges.

there are times when you are going to do well, and times when youre going to fail.

but neither the doing well, nor the failure is the measure of success. the measure of success is what you think about what youve done. let me put that another way: the way to be happy is to like yourself and the way to like yourself is to do only things that make you proud.

theres that old joke, not very funny, that goes, "no matter where you go, there you are." thats true. the person who youre with most in life is yourself and if you dont like yourself youre always with somebody you dont like.

Above all, we must remember to be ourselves, not phonies. Only by being sincere and respectful of others can we earn their respect. 大学毕业英文演讲稿 first, i would like to know, what does your destiny offer you? happiness, wisdom, a strong body or something else. if i had asked this question to president nixon, he would probably had said,”our destiny offers not the cup of despair, but th e chalice of opportunity.” needless to say, one of the biggest opportunities given to china is the xx olympic games. till now, we have used two sevenths of the preparation time. how much changes have you seen? new roads, new subway lines, public-exercising equipments with beautiful colors, large blocks of grass fields, and also lots of modern gyms which are under construction. other than those, there are even more good effects brought to us by the olympic games that cannot be seen directly. for example, more and more people will get to know china. i’m sure the mysterious chinese culture will attract them strongly. and the games will also do good to the economy and environment, for it is gaining the attention of foreign investors and the awareness of environmental protection is being strengthened. what is more, olympic games give a unique opportunity to inspire and educate a new generation of chinese youth with the olympic values and the olympic spirit. now that we have seen so many advances, could you even imagine us losing the holding rights? i’ve already said a lot about the olympics and china. but i think everyone should use some time to think of this question, ”does the olympic games have any special meaning to you?” for us, i mean the chinese youth, xx olympic games is a tremendous gift. because what we are waiting for is to do something significant as repaying the love given to us .the society is just like a ship, and in our dreams the captain is waving his hand and saying ”hey! come here and take the helm! ”how charming his voice is, but we have never heard of it in our true life. this morning, however, when we wake up, we will see the olympic games waving its hand. after chewing, most of us will have at least one plan about what to do for the olympic games. and mine is to be a “comforter” ----that is someone who will give comfort to others. at the end of my speech, i hope all the preparation will go well, and everyone will show their ability to the world. let us seize opportunities and give a big smile to challenges.

毕业典礼英文演讲稿 演讲稿一:you all are leaving your alma mater now. i have no gift to present you all except a piece of advice. what i would like to advise is that "don’t give up your study." most of the courses you have taken are partly for your certificate. you had no choice but to take them. from now on, you may study on your own. i would advise you to work hard at some special field when you are still young and vigorous. your youth will be gone that will never come back to you again. when you are old, and when your energy are getting poorer, you will not be able to as you wish to. even though you have to study in order to make a living, studies will never live up to you. making a living without studying, you will be shifted out in three or five years. at this time when you hope to make it up, you will say it is too late. perhaps you will say, "after graduation and going into the society, we will meet with an urgent problem, that is, to make a living. for this we have no time to study. even though we hope to study, we have no library nor

I don't know who wrote these words, but I've always liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it to be. We are all in the position of the farmers. If we plant a good seed ,we reap a good harvest. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all. We are young. "How to spend the youth?" It is a meaningful question. To answer it, first I have to ask "what do you understand by the word youth?" Youth is not a time of life, it's a state of mind. It's not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees. It's the matter of the will. It's the freshness of the deep spring of life. A poet said "To see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. Several days ago, I had a chance to listen to a lecture. I learnt a lot there. I'd like to share it with all of you. Let's show our right palms. We can see three lines that show how our love.career and life is. I have a short line of life. What about yours? I wondered whether we could see our future in this way. Well, let's make a fist. Where is our future? Where is our love,

1 For your generation, there’s an incredible amount of pressure on all of you to succeed, particularly now that you have accomplished so much. You’re whole generation faces this pressure. I see it in my grandchildren who are honors students at other Ivy universities right now. You race to do what others think is right in high school. You raced through the bloodsport of college admissions. You raced through Yale for the next big thing. And all along, some of you compare yourself to the success of your peers on Facebook, Instagram, Linked-In, Twitter. Today, some of you may have found that you slipped into the self- referential bubble that validates certain choices. And the bubble expands once you leave this campus, the pressures and anxiousness, as well -- take this job, make that much money, live in this place, hang out with people like you, take no real risks and have no real impact, while getting paid for the false sense of both. But resist that temptation to rationalize what others view is the right choice for you -— instead of what you feel in your gut is the right choice — - that’s your North Star. Trust it. Follow it. You're an incredible group of young women and men. And that's not hyperbole. You're an incredible group. 2 Let me con clude with this. I’m not going to moralize about to whom much is given, much is expected, because most of you have made of yourself much more than what you’ve been given. But now you are in a privileged position. You’re part of an exceptional generation an d doors will open to you that will not open to others. My Yale Law School grad son graduated very well from Yale Law School. My other son out of loyalty to his deceased mother decided to go to Syracuse Law School from Penn. They're a year and a day apart in their age. The one who graduated from Yale had doors open to him, the lowest salary offered back in the early ‘90s was $50,000 more than a federal judge made. My other son, it was a struggle -- equally as bright, went on to be elected one of the youngest attorney generals in the history of the state of Delaware, the most popular public official in my state. Big headline after the 2021 election, “Biden Most Popular Man in Delaware -- Beau.” Laughter.
