Topic1: Students should not be encouraged to participate in sports at school because sports will cause competition rather than co-operation. To what extent you agree or disagree?
It is quite common these days for students to take moderate exercise at school. Some individuals suppose that encouraging students to take part in sports will bring about competition between players rather than co-operation.
They argue that the disadvantage of participating in sports at school, in all likelihood, prevail over its advantages. The competitive atmosphere in exercise can probably drive up students’ conflict at school. Since the wealthy students may even take some exercise classes at weekend in order to defeat their opponent in sports. Moreover, some students who are weak in sports may be afflicted with more psychological burden by failing in the sports game. As a result of it, the physical inferior students can totally lose confidence, not only in terms of sports, but also in their study.
Personally, I think these views are ill-founded. Sports always play a pivotal role in human’s communication. For instance, the Olympic Games is the biggest sports game which different people from different cultures competing together through a peace and fair way. Mutual respect and cooperation is the most important spirit in sports games. Furthermore, exercise is benefit to students’ health as it keeps you fit and keeps your body in shape. More importantly, it is essential that students not only need opportunities to acquire knowledge, they need time to relax their bodies and ease their mind as well. As it’s well-known that all work and no play makes jack a dull boy.
Teachers and parents should not oppose students to join in sports on the ground that it will cause competition. That is just an excellent way for them to respect each other, help each other and learn from each other.
Topic2: The government should pay the course fees for everyone who wants to study in university. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
There has been much dispute over whether the government should dedicate money to ensuring every citizen attends college for free as long as he or she wants.
I believe national education is always of vital importance for countries. The real concern should be about how to finance education.
Some individuals argue that acquiring knowledge is a right rather than a privilege to citizen. Therefore, this is the most democratic model since everybody gets as much money as he or she needs due to the college courses. Furthermore, adopting this policy may probably boost students’ motivation of study，if they could pay less money for their college.
Personally, it is unrealistic for government to provide a free education system to all the citizens. The cost of this policy―paying the course for both the wealthy and the poor students, is far too great for government. More specially, it is a waste of money that the free education system even would cover the people who are able to pay for the courses，while such expenditure will be much more reasonable for upgrading the equipment of school. On the other hand, those who really cannot afford the college courses are still entitled as citizens to the best education available-they cannot be expected to pay their own educational bills. However, after they got a job, they shall pay the money back to the government gradually.
In conclusion, students who live in poverty should be ensured their civil right of acquiring knowledge, but is it not necessary to provide a free education system to all the students. Therefore, a sensible approach to finance national university must be proposed.
Topic 3: There are social, medical and technical problems associated with the use of mobile phone today. What forms do these problems take? Do you agree that the problem outweigh the benefits brought by mobile phone?
Mobile phone has brought significant changes to our lives in recent years. There remain some disagreements as to whether the overall effect of this technology has been positive or negative. There are certainly valid arguments to this contrary.
While the function of mobile phone has been dramatically increased, it causes some negative impacts on our current life due to the proliferation as well. Some individuals who spend too much money on their cell phones rather than concentrating on their work or study have really neglect some important things for us(a problem at work, the assignments at school, etc.). Furthermore, the widespread use of this technology may probably have some detrimental effects upon our health. For instance, those who are over dependent on his or her phone’s screen would come to be panic and chaos, if their mobile phone was power-off.

Topic4：Many people believe that scientific research should be carried out and controlled by the government rather than by private companies. To what extent do agree or disagree with their opinion.
Scientific research has brought significant changes to our lives in earlier time. There remain some disagreements as to whether the government should implement and monitor all the scientific research alone. However, I think the real concern should be about how to implement and supervise scientific experiment more efficiently and effectively.
Since scientific research is associated with the development and prospect of a nation, it is the responsibility of government to contribute on scientific experiment. That is to say, the authority should have a positive role to play in promoting the development of scientific technology. Nonetheless, it is unrealistic for government to provide an enormous implementation and supervision system covering all the scientific researches which are incredibly high in cost. As the government needs to strike a balance between the expenditure of scientific advancement and the cost of other public policies, other sponsors who are stimulating in scientific research should be found.
Personally, I suppose that some private corporations which have the financial muscle to carry out scientific experiments should shoulder the duty with government as well. As a result, this not only can enhance the public renown of a private establishment, but also generate more employment opportunities for society. Nevertheless, the scientific experiment which is carried out by a private company should be accepted the supervision of government due to the unexpected hazards and impacts of research.

The past two decades have seen a consistently increase in the public awareness of helping each other。Some individuals tend to help and support their community members，while others tend to finance the national and international charity。As far as I concerned，I believe both ways have its own inherent advantages。
Those who prefer to help their neighbors think that it is the most effective model。For instance，we can help our elder neighbors with their physical work and pay them a visit from time to time，which will probably relieve their living burdens and strengthen our community ties。More importantly，we will understand the deeper meaning of having a close neighbor through this way。That is to say，we can provide the community members a sense of belonging regardless of whether we have any family relationship。

The past 50 years have seen a dramatically development in space research，whereas some individuals complain that we didn’t benefit much from this technology which is incredibly high in cost。
The reason for this complain is based on that a vast amount of money for this type of research is wasted。More specifically，they believe the expenditure that government spent on space research would be more useful，if we spent this money on some more important projects（promoting the development of education，financing some national and international charities，saving environment，etc）

As far as I am concerned, I believe that the overall impact has in fact been positive.
In many countries, this influx of foreigner has brought with new thoughts as well as technology. As people tend to share their experiences and knowledge together regardless of the cultural differences, which certainly promotes the development of science research. Therefore, our lives have become far more convenient and interesting than before due to this flow of newcomers. Moreover, having a mixture of cultures and tradition give a countries colour and vibrancy. It is my belief that newcomers can help us discover some new aspects of our familiar stuff and inspire our imagination by the clashing of knowledge.
Some individuals argue that this cultural diversity will probably erode the national identity. However, I would content that this view is ill-founded because many newcomers from other counties are willing to adapt to the tradition in their adopted countries. For instance, it is not uncommon that international students celebrate the Chinese spring festival by making and eating dumping together with their classmates in china.
By way of conclusion, I once again restate my view that the benefits of the culture diversity far outweigh its drawbacks, and this trend is likely to become increasingly prevalent in the foreseeable future.
Topic 10: Some people think that good health is a basic human need, so medical service should be run by the government instead of profit-making companies. Do you think the disadvantages of private health care outweigh the advantages?
These days, it seems that more people are concerning about the medical service system than ever before. However, there remain some disagreements as to whether medical care should be provided by government rather than private corporations.
Some individuals contend that private companies can play a positive role on the development of medicine. As the competition between companies is increasingly stiff, more efficient drugs will be required due to the strategy of marketing. Therefore, companies will invest more proportion of their expenditure in the research of new drugs. Besides, people can benefit enormous from the price campaign which results in the decrease of health bill.
Even though there may be some advantages of private medical care, it is my belief that government should shoulder the responsibility of providing an inexpensive medical care system. If the companies concentrate too much on their own profit, the real needs of patients are likely to be neglect. For instance, some physicians may prescribe the drugs, which have a larger profit, instead of the more effective choice. More importantly, those who really can’t afford the bill of their health should be entitled the right of having a free medical care. It is the most democratic model that government should dedicate itself to protecting the right of the poorer and the sick.
Bay way of conclusion, I am intending to contend that the drawbacks of private health care prevail over its benefits. Most people should privately insure their health. Therefore, a safety net in the form of a basic free health care system must exist for the very poor and the unemployed.
Topic 11: Modern buildings change the appearance of towns and cities. In order to protect the cultural identity, the government should ensure that all the new buildings are built in traditional styles. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
These days, architects often find themselves in dilemma when trying to decide whether the exterior of their project should convey a traditional feel. Despite the arguments of some people that modern buildings which are often markedly incompatible with historical surroundings erode the cultural identity of a city by spoiling the cityscape, it is my personal belief that there are certain some merits to modern buildings.
Modern architectural styles, in many cases, have in fact been beneficial to both the development of our cities and the way we lives. The advancement of building technology has made modern building superior to their traditional counterpart in terms of structures and materials. Due to the discoveries of steel, cement and reinforced concrete, we can now set up a high-rise residential complex in a relatively shorter time compared with the traditional approaches cost. More importantly, our lives have become far more convenient in a modern building. Since there is a sophisticated water supply system in a modern-style building, those who lives in a modern building can enjoy a hot shower no matter when it is.
Nevertheless, some individuals point out that the traditional style may be a reasonable option for some urban project. For instance, new churches and temples which are represent the cultural identify of a city would be well-advised to be designed in traditional styles. Besides, there are some city-dwellers still prefer to live in a traditional apartments and house, regardless of the condition they are in, because of the comfortable layout.
By way of conclusion, I am intending to contend that whether a new building should be determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on their location and function that they serve. As population is booming, modern high-rise building
