Kids are being taught by robots in South Korea. There are 29 robot teachers working in 19 primary schools in Daegu. Kids at Hakjung Primary School seemed excited to communicate with their robot teacher named Engkey. It is about 3.2 feet tall and can move around the classroom on its wheels. It can ask questions in English and dance to music.

Engkey was invented by the KIST and it cost about $1.39 million. It is controlled by teachers in the Philippines. It can communicate with students through sounds and pictures. When class begins, the teacher's face will appear on the LED screen.

The robot teachers will be mainly used in after-school programs because each can only teach eight kids at a time. In May 2014, TIME named the robots as one of the 50 best inventions of 2010. However, it also thought the robot teachers might have a strong influence on thousands of foreign English teachers in Korea. These may make them lose their jobs.

Kim Mun-Sang of KIST said, “We will keep on studying to improve the robots' teaching ability until it is very close to human teachers'.”But why not just use human teachers?According to a report of New York Times, the money used on education will not be enough if they use thousands of foreign teachers. More and more teachers are unwilling (不愿意) to live in the areas that are far away from the cities. But the robots are different. Although I don't think robot teachers can really take the place of human teachers in the future, they can at least help us solve some problems.

()41. Teachers in the Philippines control Engkey's activities in class.

()42. There are 19 robot teachers working in 29 primary schools.

()43. From the passage, each of the robot teachers can only teach eight students at a time.

()44. New York Times says using robot teachers is more expensive than using human teachers.

Doctor Smith and his team have found out why the crocodiles(鳄鱼) in Australia are dying out. Australia is known as a wonderful park of wild animals, but the crocodiles there are facing the danger to die out. This has troubled Australia for many years.

The sea crocodile is one of the biggest crocodiles in the world. They can grow as long as six meters. The river mouth is their home. They eat anything they catch, even including human beings. Ten years ago, scientists suddenly found the number of sea crocodiles was also becoming smaller quickly. To find out the reason, Doctor Smith and his team worked for two years. In their field research they found a dead sea crocodile. They cut its stomach open and found a John crocodile in it. This proved their guess.

But now there came another question. What killed the sea crocodiles With the help of cameras, they discovered the secret. John crocodiles eat a poisonous(有毒的) red toad(蟾蜍) which was brought in from South America. Then the sea crocodiles eat John crocodiles.

翻译在最后 Conversation One M: Guess what? The worst food I've ever had was in France. W: Really? That's odd. I thought the French were all good cooks. M:Yes. That's right. I suppose it's really like anywhere else, though. You know, some places are good. Some bad. But it's really all our own fault. W: What do you mean? M: Well, it was the first time I'd been to France. This was years ago when I was at school. I went there with my parents' friends, from my father's school. They'd hired a coach to take them to Switzerland. W: A school trip? M: Right. Most of them had never been abroad before. We'd crossed the English Channel at night, and we set off through France, and breakfast time arrived, and the coach driver had arranged for us to stop at this little café. Th ere we all were, tired and hungry, and then we made the great discovery. W: What was that? M: Bacon and eggs. W: Fantastic! The real English breakfast. M: Yes. Anyway, we didn't know any better— so we had it, and ugh...! W: What was it like? Disgusting? M: Oh, it was incredible! They just got a bowl and put some fat in it. And then they put some bacon in the fat, broke an egg over the top and put the whole lot in the oven for about ten minutes. W: In the oven! You're joking. You can't cook bacon and eggs in the oven! M:Well. They must have done it that way. It was hot, but it wasn't cooked. There was just this egg floating about in gallons of fat and raw bacon. W: Did you actually eat it? M: No! Nobody did. They all wanted to turn round and go home. You know, back to teabags and fish and chips. You can't blame them really. Anyway, the next night we were all given another foreign speciality. W: What was that? M: Snails. That really finished them off. Lovely holiday that was! Questions 1 to 4 are based on the conversation you have just heard. Question 1. What did the woman think of the French? Question 2. Who did the man travel with on his first trip to Switzerland? Question 3. What does the man say about the breakfast at the little French café?
