在寒冷的冬天里,一只青蛙发现一个装有沸水的杯子很暖和、马上跳了进去,但用更快的速度跳了出来,他很是为自己的机敏感到骄傲。不久,青蛙又发现了一个装水的杯子,这回他接受了教训,先试了试水温,水不烫而且很暖和,青蛙满意地跳了进去,舒适地享受起来,全然没有想到这是一个正在加热的杯子。水不断升温,当青蛙发现太热时,已失去了跳出来的力量,最后,青蛙再也跳不出来了。
