One afternoon, I went to the pool with my brother and his son. I didn?t want to swim so I sat by the pool reading a book. My brother decided to swim in the pool for a while. Then it hit upon me.

I told my brother that I would be back in a few minutes. I almost ran to a nearby and bought a huge inflated (充气的) shark. I returned to the pool and hid behind some large plants. When my brother wasn?t looking, I threw it up in the air and it fell into the pool and came to rest a few feet from him. Then, the fun began.

I challenged him into action by saying that he couldn’t get on the shark and sit on it without falling off. For his first attempt, he tried mounting the shark from the side, but every time he tried, he slipped back into the water. For his second attempt, he quickly pushed the shark to the side of the pool, climbed up on the side and rushed onto the back of the shark. Certainly, he fell into the water again. However hard he tried, he failed to conquer the shark.

I couldn’t take it any mo re. My tears were in my eyes from laughing so hard. I turned to his son and asked him to show his dad how to do it. He swam into the water, stood back for a moment and surveyed the shark--its length and height. And then with one continuous smooth movement, he easily mounted the shark and sat there with a proud look.

While it was great fun to watch the comic actions of my brother, it was even more meaningful to watch how my nephew conquered the shark. So don’t rush into a problem or task without a goal and a practical action plan.

“Dad,” I say one day, “let’s take a trip. Why don’t you fly out and meet me?”
