Reading Comprehension
请根据需要填入Script:

Directions: There are two passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices. Click on the best choice. (20 points)

Passage One
There are a great many careers in which the increasing emphasis is on specialization. You find these careers in engineering, in production, in statistical work, and in teaching. But there is an increasing demand for people who are able to take in a great area at a glance, people who perhaps do not know too much about any one field. There is, in other words, a demand for people who are capable of seeing the forest rather than the trees, of making general judgements. We can call these people "generalists". And they are particularly needed for positions in administration, where it is their job to see that other people do their work, where they have to plan for other people, to organize other people's work, to begin it and judge it.
The specialist understands one field; his concern is with technique and tools. He is a "trained" man; and his educational background is properly technical or professional. The generalists and especially the administrators deal with people; his concern is with leadership, with planning, and with direction giving. He is an "educated" man; and the humanities (人文学科) are his strongest foundation. Very rarely is a specialist capable of being an administrator. And very rarely is a good generalist also a good specialist in a particular field. Any organization needs both kinds of people, though different organizations need them in different proportions. It is your task to find out, during your training period, into which of the two kinds of jobs you fit, and to plan your fu

ture career accordingly.
Your first job may turn out to be the right job for you but this is pure accident. Certainly you should not change jobs constantly or people will become suspicious of your ability to hold any job. At the same time, you must not look upon the first job as the final job. It is primarily a training job, a chance to understand yourself and your fitness for being an employee.

21. There is an increasing demand for ______.
A. all round people in their own fields
B. people whose job is to organize other people's work
C. people whose educational background is either technical or professional
D. specialists whose chief concern is to provide administrative guidance to others

22. The specialist is ______.
A. a man whose job is to train other people
B. a man who has been trained in more than one field
C. a man who can see the forest rather than the trees
D. a man whose concern is mainly with technique and tools
请根据需要填入Script:

23. The administrator is ______.
A. a "trained" man who is more a specialist than a generalist
B. a man who sees the trees as well as the forest
C. a man who is strong in the humanities
D. a man who is an "educated" specialist
请根据需要填入Script:

24. During your training period, it is important ______.
A. to try to be a generalist
B. to choose a profitable job
C. to find an organization which fits you
D. to decide whether you are fit to be a specialist or a generalist
请根据需要填入Script:

25. A man's first job ______.
A. is never the right job for him

D. is primarily an opportunity to fit himself for his final job

Passage Two
Fourteen-year-old Richie Hawley had spent five years studying violin at the Community School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles when he took part in a violin contest. Ninety-two young people were invited to the contest and Hawley came out first.
The contest could have been the perfect setup for fear, worrying about mistakes, and trying to impress the judges. But Hawley says he "did pretty well at staying calm. I couldn't be thinking about how many mistakes I'd make — it would distract me from playing," he says. "I don't even remember trying to impress people while I played. It's almost as if they weren't there. I just wanted to make music."
Hawley is a winner. But he didn't become a winner by concentrating on winning. He did it by concentrating on playing well.
"The important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part," said the founder of the modern Olympics, Pierre de Coubertin. "The important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."

New research shows that Coubertin's philosophy is exactly the path achievers take to win at life's challenging games.
"A characteristic of high performers is their intense, pleasurable concentration on work, rather than on their competitors or future glory or money", says Dr. Charles Garfield, who has studied 1,500 achievers in business, science, sports, the arts, and professions. "They are interested in winning, but they're most interested in self development, testing their limits."
One of the most surprising things about top performers is how many losses they've had — and how much they've learned from each. "Not one of the 1,500 I studied defined losing as failing." Garfield says. "They kept calling their losses 'setbacks.'"
A healthy attitude toward setbacks is essential to winning, experts agree.
"The worst thing you can do if you've had a setback is to let yourself get stuck in a prolonged depression. You should analyze carefully what went wrong, identify specific things you did right and give yourself credit for them." Garfield believes that most people don't give themselves enough praise. He even suggests keeping a diary of all the positive things you've done on the way to a goal.
