仲夏夜之梦——剧本(英文)
第一幕第一场 (城中)
口白：There was a law in the city of Athens which gave to its citizens the power of forcing their daughter s to marry whomever they pleased. For if a daughter refused to marry the man her father had chos en to be her husband, the father might by thus law cause her to be put to death.
在雅典有一条法律赋予市民权力，可以强迫他们的女儿嫁给他们所喜欢的人，因此如果女儿拒绝父亲为她选的丈夫，依据这条法律，父亲可以自行判她死刑。
Egeus: Hermia, you have to marry Demetrious, the best guy in the city.
荷米亚，你必须嫁给狄米崔斯，这城中最好的年轻人。
Hermia: I’m sorry, Dad! I can’t be his wife.
爸爸，抱歉。我不能成为他的妻子。
Egeus: Why do you refused to marry Demetrius? He is really a worthy gentleman!

Hermia: But I don’t love him. I’ve fell in love with Lysander.

Egeus: Lysander? Is he better than Demetrious? No!

Hermia: Oh! Dad! Demettrious had ever said that he love my friend, Helena, and she, a sweet lady also love him deeply.

Egeus: No matter what you say, I’ve decided to let you marry to Demetrious. I stick to do this!

Hermia: I won’t give my heart to the person who I never like.
我不愿把我的心交给一个我不曾喜欢的人。
Egeus: If you don’t marry Demetrious, I’ll use the ancient right of Athens, asking to put you to dea th according to our law! (下)
如果你不嫁给狄米崔斯，根据我们的法律，我将用雅典的古律法要求判你死刑。Hermia: Oh! Please, please do not! My dear father! Don’t you love me any more? Don’t give me u p, please!

Lysander: Sweet Hermia, my love! What’s going wrong? Let me wipe your heart-breaking tears!

Hermia: My father said that unless I marry Demetrious, or he’ll be put me to death! What can I do?

Lysander: Fear not and hear me. Tomorrow night, I’ll wait for you in the wood a few miles outside the city. If you really love me, getting far away this sad city with me.

Hermia: I will because I love you so.

Lysander: Keep promise, love. Here comes Helena and I have to go. See you tomorrow night! (下) 一言为定，爱人。海伦娜来了，我必须走了，明晚见。
Helena上场
Helena: Hello! Hermia.

Hermia: I’m so glad to see you, my friend!

Helena: But Demetrious love you. Oh, teach me how to attract his eyes, please?

Helena: I will go tell Demetrious of fair Hermia’s flight, and then he’ll pursue her. I just want to have his sight again. (下)
我要去告诉狄米崔斯,美丽的荷米亚将要离开，然後他将会去追寻她，而我只是想再看见他的容貌。
第二幕第一场 (森林中)
口白：The wood was a favorite meeting-place of those little, beings known by the name of fairies. Betwe en this little king and green of spirits there happened, at this time, a sad disagreement.
这个树林是精灵最喜欢的聚会地点，可是仙王和仙后此时发生了严重的争吵。Oberon: I’ll meet by moonlight, proud Titania.
真不巧又在月光下遇见你，傲慢的泰妲妮亚。
Titania: What, jealous Oberon! Fairies, run hence; I have left his company.
嘿，嫉妒的欧波隆，小精灵们，快跑。我已经离开他的同伴了。
Oberon: Wait, foolish fairy, why do you oppose me so? Give me that little boy to be my slave.
等一等，傻精灵，你为什麼要违抗我？让那个小男孩当我的奴隶。
Titania: Set your heart at rest, your whole fairy kingdom will not buy the boy from me. (下) 别想，你就是用整个精灵王国也买不到这个小男孩。
Oberon: Well, go your way. Before the morning dawns, I will make you suffer for this injury. Com e here, my gentle Puck.

Puck: I’m here, my lord.

Oberon: Fetch me the flower which maids call Love in Idleness; the juice of that little purple flow er, laid on the eyelids of those who sleep, will make them, when they awake, love madly the first t hing they see. And before I will take this charm from off her sight, which I can do with another ch arm I know of, I will make her give that boy to be my slave.
替我把少女们称做``枉费之爱``的花拿来，一旦将那紫色小花的汁液滴在睡眠者的眼皮上，当他们醒来时，便会疯狂的爱上所看到的第一件东西。在解除这魔法之前，我要让那个小男孩当我的奴隶。
Puck: I’ll do that very well. Believe me. (下)

Oberon: But who comes here? I am invisible. And I will overhear their conference.

Demetrious和 Helena 上
Demetrious: I don’t love you at all, so you don’t pursue me. Where are Lysander and fair Hermia? Y ou told me they are there, but I can’t meet my Hermia. Go away and follow me no more.
我不爱你，所以别跟著我，莱赛德和美丽的荷米亚在那儿？你告诉我，他们在这里，但是我找不到我的荷米亚。快走，不许再跟著我。
Helena: Y ou draw me, you hard-hearted adamant.

Helena: Don’t leave me alone. Please stay, though you kill me. (下)
不要离开我，请留下吧，就算你杀了我。
Oberon: The poor girl! I have to help her. Welcome, wanderer, has you get the flower? (Puck上) 可怜的女孩，我得帮助她。欢迎啊，浪游者，你把花采来了吗？
Puck: A y, there it is.
是的，就在这儿。
Oberon: Thank you, my cute spirit. Take a part of this flower: there has been a sweet lady here, wh o is in love with a cruel youth. If you find him sleeping, drop some of the love-juice in his eyes. B ut see that you do it when he awakes maybe this lady. Y ou will know the man by the Athenian gar ments he wears.
谢谢，我可爱的精灵，拿走一些花，这里有一位甜美的少女爱上了冷酷的年轻人。如果你发现他睡著了，就把爱情的汁液滴进他的眼睛里，但是，一定要确定他醒来时就看到那少女。你可以由他穿的雅典服饰认出他。

第二幕第二场 (仙后的寝宫)
仙女们忙著做事，此时仙后进来
Titania: Fairies, sing me now asleep; then to your offices and let me rest. (睡)
精灵们，在我沉睡之前唱首歌，然後，各做各的事，让我休息一会儿。
仙女唱歌跳舞然後散去；仙王上
Oberon: What you see when you do you awake, do it for your true love take. Love and languish fo r his sake. (下)
当你醒来时所看到的就是你的真爱，并为他担起相思债。
第三幕第一场 (森林的另一处)
Lysander: Fair love, you faint with wandering in the wood; if you think it good, and tarry for the c omfort of the day.
好人，你在树林中跋涉著，累得快要昏倒了，要是你同意，让我们休息一下吧。Hermia: Be it so, Lysander. Good night, sweet lover.
就照你的意思吧，莱赛德。晚安，爱人。
Lysander: I wish sleep give you all his rest!
愿睡眠给你充分的休养。
Hermia: I will share with you.
我愿与你分享。
两人同睡，Puck上
Puck: Ah! Who is here? This is he, the cruel youth. And she is the lady. Pretty soul! She durst not lie near this lack-love. Churl, I’ll drop the love-juice in your eyes. Hey! It’s so funny! (下)
啊，谁在这儿？这是那残酷的年轻人，而她就是那个女孩。美丽的人儿，她竟然不敢睡近这没心肝的恶汉。坏东西，我将在你的眼精滴进爱情的花液。嘿，真有趣。
Helena上
Helena: I am out of breath in the fond chase! The more my prayer, the lesser is my grace. Who is lying on the ground? Oh! He is Lysander! Is he dead or asleep? Good sir, if you are alive, awake.
这痴心的追赶使我累得喘不过气来，我愈是祈求，却愈惹他讨厌。是谁躺在地上?喔，是莱赛德，他是死了还是睡著了?好先生，如果你还活著，就醒醒吧。
Lysander: What a pretty beauty! Helena, I would through fire for your sweet sake.
多漂亮的美女，海伦娜，我愿为你赴汤蹈火。
Helena: Do not say so, Lysander. Don’t you love Hermia?
别这麼说，莱赛德。你不爱荷米亚吗？
Lysander: I don’t love her at all. For me, she is just a black raven, and you are a white dove.
我一点也不爱她，对我而言，她只是只乌鸦，而你是只白鸽。
Helena: Oh! Why was I born to be mocked and though nothing of by everyone? Is it not enough, young man? That a lady, of one man refused, should of another be so abused! (下)
喔，为什麼我生下来就被每个人嘲笑，而不被尊重？年轻人，这还不够吗？
一个女子被一个男人拒绝，还得忍受另一个男人的揶揄。
Lysander: All my power, address your love and might to honor Helena and to be her knight! (下) 我的一切生命之力啊，用爱和力来尊崇海伦娜，做她忠实的武士吧。
Hermia醒
Hermia: Lysander! Lysander! Where do you go? No sound? No word! If you hear me, please talk to me! I swoon almost with fear. But, where do you go?
莱赛德！莱赛德！你去那儿了？没有回音，不说一句话？如果你听得到，请回答我，我快因害怕而昏倒了，但你去那儿了?
Demetrious上
Demetrious: you are here, my dear Hermia! I found you for a long time.

Hermia: Do you see my Lysander?

Demetrious: She is so angry. I’d better stop following her.I have to take a rest. Tonight is too tired! (睡)

Oberon和Puck 上
Oberon: Did you finish your work, Puck?

Puck: Sure, I did. And the woman is by his side: when he waked, of course she must be eyed.

Oberon: Hey! He is there! What did you do? Why does the cruel man still sleep here? Y ou must made mistake!

Bottom: Oh! I lost my way.

Oberon: This fellow shall be my Titania’s true love.

Puck: How about dressing him with an ass’s head?

Bottom: Hello! Is anyone here? I need someone to help me!

Oberon: Hmmm, it’s a good idea!

Puck: How interesting!

Bottom: It seems that there is no one. I think I’d better go forward. (下)

第三幕第二场 (仙后的寝宫)
Bottom: How tired I am! Who can help me?

Titania: Ah! What a cute angel is that I see! (现身)Are you as wise as you are beautiful?

Bottom: Why, mistress, if I have wit enough to find the way out of this wood, I have to serve my p urpose!

Titania: Go with me, I am a spirit of no common kind. I do love you and I’ll give you fairies to att end upon you.

Bottom: That sounds very good! Could I have the wonderful life?

Titania: Of course! Come, honey, sit down upon this flowery bed. Let me play with your pretty hai ry cheeks and kiss your fair large ears, my beautiful ass!

Bottom: where are fairies?

第四幕第一场 (森林中Demetrious沉睡之处)
Lysander: Why should you think that I should woo in scorn? I just hope you could love me.
为什麼你要以为我的求爱不过是嘲笑你呢？我只是希望你爱我罢了。
Helena: Do you give Hermia up? Y ou should vow to her.
你放弃荷米亚了吗？你的誓言都是应该向她说的。
Lysander: My heart to her but as a guest, now my heart to you as a son comes home, never leave
我对她的心不过像个过客，现在我对你的心就像回到家的游子，再不离去了。. Demetrious醒来
Demetrious: Oh! Helena, perfect goodness! How ripe in show your lips, those tempting grow! Oh! Let me kiss your pure white hand.
噢！海伦娜！完美的女神！你的嘴唇是多麼诱人！让我亲吻那纯白的手吧！
Helena: Oh! Spite! Y ou both love Hermia, and now you both mock me! I know you hate me, but you must join in souls to mock me too?

Demetrious: Lysander, keep your Hermia. Helena is mine!

Lysander: All I say is true. I do hate you and love Helena. Y ou can be out of hope.

Helena: Now I know that they have conjoined all you to fashion this false sport, in spite of me. Unkind Hermia, if you had any pity, grace, or manners, you would not join with men in laughing at your poor friend.
现在我明白了，他们三人一起联合起来捉弄我。没情没义的荷米亚，如果你有点同情心，慈悲心，或一些礼貌的话，就不应该和男人一起嘲笑你可怜的朋友。
Hermia: I am filled with wonder at your angry words. I do not laugh at you; it seems you laugh at me.

Hermia: Ok, get you gone. I am amazed, and know not what to say. (下)

Oberon: Puck, this is your carelessness; or did you do it purposely?
派克，这都是因为你的粗心，还是你故意的？
Puck: Believe me, king of shadows, it was a mistake; However, I am not sorry this has happened, for I think their quarrelling makes an excellent game.
相信我，国王，那是无心之过。不过，我并不觉得抱歉，我认为他们的争吵是很有趣的。Oberon: Y ou heard, Demetrious and Lysander are gone to seek a place to fight in. I command you to fill the night with a thick fog, and let they shall not be able to find each other. And when they ar e asleep, drop the juice of this other flower into Lysander’s eyes.

Puck: I know, I know

Oberon: Go about this quickly, Puck. I will go and see my queen and beg the little boy; and then I will release her charmed eyes from monster’s view, and all things shall be peace. (两人同下) 派克，赶快去办这件事！我会去看我的皇后并且乞求那个小男孩而且解除她的幻觉。一切事情都将和平解决。
第四幕第二场 (仙后寝宫中，仙后醒来)
Titania: Oh! My sweet, I love you so much, and never leave you. ( Oberon 上)
噢！我的甜心，我是如此的爱你，而且永不离开你。
Oberon: Hey! What are you doing now? Where does the ass come from?
嘿！你在做什麼呀？这头驴子打从那来的？
Titania: Gosh! What can I say? Hmmm… he is …he is…is….

Oberon: I must tell you, you should not show kindness to an ass.
我必须告诉你，你不该对一只驴子如此仁慈。
Titania: But, as you see, he is so charming. However, please forgive me.

Oberon: Unless you give me the little boy.

第五幕第一场 (森林中四人熟睡著)
口白：These people, at no great distance from each other, sleeping on a grass-plot.
Puck: Look! How careful I am! I’ll release the magic. When you are awake, everyone will find true love. This is really a happy ending! (下)
看！我是多麼的小心！我要解除魔法。当你们醒来时，每个人将找到真爱。这真是快乐结局！

Hermia: Oh! Lysander, the doings of the night are too strange! Do you still love me or not?
噢！莱赛德，今晚真奇怪！你还爱不爱我？
Lysander: I still crazy about you! But I dreamed I love Helena ……how mad!

Hermia: A y! I had the same dream!

The comedy tells about a couple lovers named Hermia and Lysander in Athens.Hermia's father disagree that Hermia is together with Lysander.He demands that the duke orders,if Hermia doesn't marry Demetrius,she will be killed.Hermia falls in love with Lysander deeply,on the other hand,Demetrius loves her friend Helena.So she fights againt her father's mind.Hemia and Lysander decide to escape from Athens.Demetrius and Helena follow the couple into the forst. The fairy king Oberon in the forest want to help Helena get Demetrius's love.He order the Puck put the love water into Demetrius's eyelid when he falls into deep sleeping.While he wakes up and open his eyes,he will fall in love with the woman who he sees firstly.But Puck makes a mistake,he makes a wrong man.The love water droplets in Lysander's eyelid,which makes Lysander fall in love with Helena,and then Puck droplets antidote in Demetrius's eyelid,so Demetrius also fall in love with Helena.The fairy king droplets antidote in Lysander's eyelid.The magic is dispelled.Hermia's father find that Hermia and Demetrius love their own lovers.So he agrees the marriage between Hermia and Lysander.Finally,the two couple lovers hold the wedding on the same day. The play features three interlocking plots, connected by a celebration of the wedding of Duke Theseus of Athens and the Amazonian queen Hippolyta. In the opening scene, Hermia refuses to comply with her father Egeus's wish for her to marry his chosen man, Demetrius. In response, Egeus quotes before Theseus an ancient Athenian law whereby a daughter must marry the suitor chosen by her father, or else face death or lifelong chastity worshipping Diana as a nun. The word in this sense is an anachronism. Hermia and her lover Lysander therefore decide to elope by escaping through the forest at night. Hermia informs her best friend Helena, but Helena has recently been rejected by Demetrius and decides to win back his favor by revealing the plan to him. Demetrius, followed doggedly by Helena, chases Hermia, who, in turn, chases Lysander, from whom she becomes separated. Meanwhile, Oberon, king of the fairies, and his queen, Titania, arrive in the same forest to attend Theseus and Hippolyta's wedding. Oberon and Titania are estranged because Titania refuses to give her Indian page-boy to Oberon for use as his "knight" or "henchman," since the child's mother was one of Titania's worshippers. Sentiment after Reading “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” There is a booming of love bell from a distance where there is a white roof church. The land is draped in a veil of mystery by the moonlight who is the Dark Goddess. The fragrance of summer flowers are diffusing in the jungle, and also the blue sea, the quiet forest, the tranquil garden, all of them are full of the sweet smell. When everything has gone to sleep quietly, however, spirits are driving the boat what made of flowers to the shore. Oh, what do they want to do? We don't know now, but we cognize the good dream is about to begin and the curtain of the midsummer night with love rises…… In the palace of Theseus in Athens, a celebration of the wedding of Duke Theseus of Athens and the Amazonian queen Hippolyta is according to script. On one side, Hermia refuses to comply with her father, Egeus, who wishes for her to marry his chosen man, Demetrius. In response, Egeus beg the ancient privilege of whereby a daughter must marry the suitor chosen by her father, or else face death or lifelong chastity worshipping Diana as a nun. The law in this sense is an anachronism. Therefore, Hermia and her lover Lysander decide to elope by escaping through the forest at night. In order to distract Titania, force her to give up the page-boy, and help Helena wins the love of Demetrius, Oberon orders the mischievous Puck who also called “Hobgoblin” and “Robin Goodfellow” to help him fetch a flower called "love-in-idleness" what can produce a magical juice, which makes the victim fall in love with the first living thing he sees when he awakens. Oberon drops the liquor of the flower in Titania's eyes when she is asleep for distracting her and forcing her to give up the India boy. What's more, Oberon also orders Puck to crush this herb into the eyelids of the young Athenian man. Instead, Puck takes a mistake. He puts the juice on the eyes of Lysander who should have had a true-love with Hermia, but because of Puck's negligence that he then falls in love with Helena. When Oberon finds this out, he asks Puck to make everything restorable at once and Demetrius falls in love with Helena. Everybody wakes up at the break of day and everything develops as they hoped. All shall be well, and Jack shall have Jill in the last. And also the king and queen of fairies patch up their tiff. The world goes down to be peaceful again. In this comedy drama, Shakespeare gives the good performance of the women. They have a noble moral character and the independent personality. They believe everyone cannot chop and change in love. The most admired thing is they have the courage to pursue their own love, commitment and loyalty of love at that time. Hermia's father wants her to marry Demetrius, but she loses her heart to another young aristocrat Lysander. And Egeus feels very angry when he knows that they share a mutual affinity. He talks about the thing with the Duke of Athens and hopes that Hermia will bow to him under the law of Athens, but it not works. There is another female image Helena, Hermia's good friend. She is very clever, pursuing her love and not giving up. Although she loved Demetrius deeply, Demetrius was infatuated with her good friend Hermia. When she learned that Hermia and Lysander will get away from here together, she said, "if I have thanks, it is a dear expense: But herein mean I to enrich my pain, to have his sight thither and back again."
