Unit 3 Communication

Part One Listening Comprehension

Task I Listening practice--listen to the word.

1.Guide Ss to read the six phonetic symbols: /f/, /v/,/l/,/m/,/n/

2.Let Ss take turns to read one group of words respectively, and correct the pronunciation if necessary. (10')

3.Write down the vowels on the blackboard, and let Ss read after the teacher. (3')

1. Read through the passage and do the exercise. (12')

Remind them to make full use of the same words appearing in the passage and the questions and take

a guess. And tell them nearly all the answers can be found in the passage.

As we know, communication involves at least two persons. Most of time, we focus on how to trigger a conversation or how to be talkative. However, to be a good listener is also crucial to a successful conversation.

6)Be supposed to: 据说;应该

The castle is supposed to be haunted.

7)The reason why…关系副词引导的定语从句,表原因,常见的还有when和where

I still remember the day when I first came to the school.

The house where I lived ten years ago has been pulled down.

8)As if: 引导的从句表示事实或可能性很大,通常用陈述句语气。

It appears as if she’s lost interest in her job.

表示主观想象或夸大性的比喻,通常用虚拟语气。

当从句:A. 意义与现在的事实相反,谓语用一般过去式;

When a pencil is partly in a glass of water, it looks as if it were broken.

B. 表示与过去事实相反要用had + 过去分词;

Memories of my childhood came up in my mind as if they had just happened.

C. 表示与将来情况相反的要用would/ could/ might + 动词原形;

She cried as if her heart could be broken.

As if的常用句式:A. 在look, seem等系动词后引导表语从句。

She looks as if she were ten years younger.

B. 引导方式状语从句。

The child talked to us as if he were a grown-up.

9)Concern: A. (~ oneself) 关心,挂念;

He loved his wife, and concerned himself with her needs and desires.

B. 担心,担忧

We're concerned for our daughter's safety.

Teachers have expressed concern about the changes. (n.)

10)As far as sb./ sth. be concerned:就……来说,就……而言

As far as I’m concerned, you can forget about it.

As far as traffic is concerned there are no delays at the moment.

11)As…+ adj./ adv. (原级) + as…表示“和……一样……”

This film is as interesting as that one.

否定形式为not as/ so + adj./ adv. + as…

This book is not so/ as useful as you think it is.

若有修饰成分,如twice, three times, half, a quarter等,必须置于第一个as之前。

Some of the doctors are paid more than twice as much as the nurses.

Part Five Grammar—主谓一致

三个原则:语法一致原则,意义一致原则和就近一致原则。

语法一致:谓语动词的单复数形式取决于主语。

1.不可数名词+第三人称单数。

2.With,together with…等短语后,谓语动词的数不受影响。

3.Many a, more than one…+名词,谓语动词为单数。

4. A number of, a variety of, a group of后谓语为复数;the number of, the variety of后谓语为单

数。

5.时间,温度,重量,价格等主语后,谓语为单数。

6.Each和every修饰主语,谓语为单数。

意义一致:谓语动词的单复数形式取决于主语表达的概念。

1.集合名词表示整体概念,谓语为单数;集合名词表示成员,谓语为复数。

2.Cattle, folk, people, police, youth…等集合名词后,谓语通常为复数。

3.单复数同形的名词后,谓语根据名词意义决定单复数。

4.None代表不可数名词,谓语为单数。

5.Either, neither修饰的名词后,谓语为单数。

6.书名或格言后,谓语为单数。

7.What引导的名词性从句后,谓语根据意思而定。

就近一致:

1.Either…or…, or, neither…nor…, not only…but also…句型中,谓语动词以距离谓语最近的主

语为依据。

2.There和here引起的句子,主语又不止一个,谓语动词以距离谓语最近的主语为依据。
