《雅思阅读真经5》使用说明,补丁,难题解析-----刘洪波

This book is underpinned by a scientific methodology, integrating reading skills and vocabulary building, and unveilling the real tests.

Reading Passage 1 冰箱

5. safer=better,took over=alternatives,所以答案是Freon。

6. 注意inventing=patented

Q1: 请问第一篇冰箱的发明的第2和3空怎么定位,我在原文找不到….

A: 第二第三题对应正文第四段最后一句话。

原文:and another made by physician JG, and developed vapor-compression refrigeration for the brewing and meatpacking industries.

题干:and commercial refrigeration was applied to as well as industries.

对应:for=applied to; and=as well as

定位词:commercial refrigeration

Q2: 还是冰箱那篇,为什么第5个空不能填alternatives?在原文中不是刚好接在比较级better后面吗?

A: 第五题对应正文第五段第三句话。

原文:engineers worked until the 1920s to come up with better alternatives, one of which was Freon.

题干:The safer took over it in 1920s.

对应:better=safer; come up with=took over

定位词:1920s

请注意,填alternative不是最优答案,最准确的是氟利昂Freon

Reading Passage 2

A: 第三题对应正文第三段倒数第三行:he also realised that the safety problems had to be solved 对应原文译文:阿尔弗雷德.诺贝尔对硝化甘油以及如何将它投入到建工领域进行实用非常有兴趣。同时,他也意识到安全问题的解决以及发展如何控制硝化甘油爆炸的方法的必要性。

难度较大,需要结合文意理解,因为爆炸不是炸药的风险和问题,如何安全控制炸药的爆炸时机才是问题所在,所以答案选safety

Q2: 看到了,那第五题呢limited行不行

A: 第五题对应正文第四段第四行

原文:...exceedingly dangerous. They forbade further experimentation with nitrolycerine within the Stockholm city limits and..

题干:Since the experiments were too dangerous and were within the city area by the government of the Stockholm city, ...

对应:exceedingly=too; 本题需将找到信息变换词性,虽不常见,但也在真题中出现过另外有些同学误填limited 请注意词义间的却别,禁止和限制不能等价替换。

定位词:experiments; too dangerous

Reading Passage 3 猛犸象

2. 难题,很多人是蒙对的。该题要对上下文联合理解。注意空格词性。(单词填空题可能词性变化,概率很小。参考《剑8》77页35题。但考生必须知道真题有这种情况)

7. 第23页左栏倒数第3行dying out=题目中went extinct。

8. hair/coat都为正确答案。

Reading Passage 4 塔斯马尼亚虎

2. 难题。对应第27页最后一句理解。

10. 要仔细。题目中perished=died,所以答案是1936而非1933。

Q1: they ran briskly and awkwardly when chased.这句话怎么理解?被追逐的时候又轻快又笨拙?

A: 袋狼的反应不是很敏捷,看起来也懒洋洋的,就连追赶猎物的时候虽然不慢但也满笨拙的。

Q2: 还有第4篇塔斯马尼亚虎的第2题,为什么是pouch,我看到了27页最后一行有unlike other marsupials

A:第二题对应正文第三段第九行

原文:The female Tasmanian tiger had a pouch with four teats but unlike other marsupials, the pouch opened at the back.

题干:Tasmanian tigers belong to marsupials that have a in common.

对应:

定位词:

***请注意,题干中的that是定义marsupials=有袋目哺乳动物的,那么答案就显而易见了。顾名思义,它们应该都有育儿袋。本题难点在于题干与原文采取了反义对应,unlike和in common,这需要同学们有一定的总结和对段落大意的把握能力。

Reading Passage 5 亚特兰蒂斯

难度较高,如全对,对应雅思阅读8分水平。试试?

Passage 6 超市起源

Q1: 第6个文章Merchandise was displayed as single units each within a glass cabinet under which was a keyhole 怎么翻译

A: 商品的每一个单独样品被展示一个玻璃柜里,每个底下有个钥匙孔

Q2: 请问助教真经第6篇的第8个空在那一句话啊

A: 第八题对应四十一页倒数第三段倒数第二行in the labor needed to stock the shelves

Passage 7 学术欺诈

Q1: 助教第七篇的第2个空是不是accurate和concoctive同意转换啊?真5的p48,题目2,求解答。

A: 第二题对应D段第二句话accurate是准确的...concoctive是捏造的。

对应原文that incorrect results cannot last indefinitely

Q2: 请教一下,第七篇文章第四题,虽然我在原文看到了function,(P46倒数第二行),但是因为当时只知道function的名词,题目中空格后面是usefully,所以觉得副词前面应该是动词,选择了working。后来查了词典,function有动词意思,是起作用,可是working也有起作用的意思啊?

A: 第四题填working和function都对

Passage 8 涂鸦艺术

Q:T1 我知道polarized和dividing是同义替换,但是题目中的具体我理解不了啊。第一句话是说“涂鸦是否包含艺术这一争论区分了英国的确立制度?”

书P51第五段第一行的credit for=题目3前面的responsible for?

A: 涂鸦是不是艺术这个争论让英国的派别两极分化;五十一页理解正确

Passage 9 古钱

Q: 助教请问第九篇第十个空定位在那里啊

A: 五十七页倒数第三行

Passage 11 苏联工作制

Q1: 请教一下第11篇第6题能否填写benefit(P69页F段第一行),虽然参考答案increase也很明显,就是想问一下……

A: 第六题69页benefit总感觉是使获益的感觉不是最优选择,勉强可以

Q2: 助教71页第8题为啥是worker啊求提示求解答71页第8题,我看了F段最后一句就填了family了

A: 第八题G段第七行,the workers hated it;注意,有些童鞋会误填families

不是所有的家庭都会反对的,反对的是那些家里有双职工的又因为这个狗屁不通的工作制见不到面的家庭。所以反对的是大部分工人

Q3: 此篇第9题如果表达为「caused failure of responsibility」可以吗?那个麻烦再问一下第九题A: 第九题定位在70页第一句话,unfamiliar=no longer consistently in the hands of people who knew how to tend them;failure=broken。如果选择responsibility责任的失败、损坏,文意不通。

Passage 12

Passage 14 哈欠

Q1:ESSE……

Passage 15 巧克力简史

Q1:97页第2题,文中说2000 years…even older. 题目是more than 3000 years. 为什么还能选对。题目的older不能够表示就是三千年了吧,也可能不到三千年吧。求解答,谢谢。是不是还有别的地方判断这个题目,我漏了什么?

A: 第二题请再往下看第一句说的是很多历史学家都说巧克力大概有2000年的历史,但是最近的调查显示可能更长。空一行第四行后边,the earliest linguistic evidence of chocolate consumption stretches back three or even four millennia,是千年的意思;这里说最早的证据要追溯回三千甚至四千年前,所以题干是对的

Q2: 问2,想确认一下第5题,解题思路是不是因为关系性的驳斥所以选错。

A: 第五题巧克力只有富人能吃是因为它产量小、很贵...有营养的话大家不就都吃了。

Passage 16 摩斯码

Q1: 102页,第三题,没找到怎么判断yes的,求解答。

A: 第三题第三段第四行,was an impractical machine requiring 26 wires...在那个时候已经有俩德国人发明出五线的模型了,所以莫斯发誓要搞个单线的出来。

Q2: 第五题,我答的yes,但答案是no,我判断的是credited by franklin t. 就等于了franklin believedd. 原文中也提到morse….having created a dot and dash code.怎么这题是no呢。

A: 第五题题干说的是这个点横系统是morse搞出来的;文中说的是FTP 把这个credit给了莫斯的助手。

Q3:P102 7题invented = filed for a patent?

Passage 18 伏尼契手稿

Q1:请问P113 3题zodiac=stars吗为什么感觉不是一个意思

A:第三题zodiac指的是黄道十二宫如果你看过圣斗士的话应该知道十二宫是星宿的守护神。总之跟星星相关所以这题是对的另,对应正文第三段的astrological =stars

Q2: 113页第11题,我找的对应在原文112页第一段最后一行, …copy of boo k that doesnt say anything,所以我判断是have no meaning. 为什么答案是f. 原文中还说doesnt tell us much A: 第十一题原文说的是拷贝理论不能帮助我们破译它到底写的是啥;但是这让我们想不通为啥会有人费劲巴拉的做一本精美的拷贝,而原书却啥意思也没有。

Passage 19 悉尼邦代海滩

Q: 老师~bondi beach这篇119页第7和第8题。。。求解

A: 第七题digger是掘金者bushman是住在丛林里的人,他们都是澳洲的文化符号;原文的意思是,就像digger和bushman一样,lifesaver成了澳洲的一种文化标志

第八题对应原文第14段说救生员救起了300人但到底是不是因此无一人淹死无法判断因此NG

Passage 20 郁金香

Q: 求问第20篇郁金香第三题为什么是F,难道是因为题中的advanced和文中的rudimentary是相反的意思吗,除此之外还有别的判断依据吗?

A:文中说的是初级的派生出来的类似现今期货市场的形式帮助了货商题干说的是先进的期货市场

Passage 22 印度深井

Q:137页第五题我找到对应135页的左侧第七行开始我选的t 因为我觉得我找到了三处对应我什么地方看漏了如果题目变成indian stepwell became a social place as it was much cooler than outside especially in summer. 选对呢?

A: 第五题题干:深井在夏季成为social的地方是因为温度低;原文没说是哪个季节,应该是一年四季都能social。还是NG 就没说它成为social place的原因;只是说有这么个现象深井能1在夏天提供低温环境2能social 3有宗教用途;并没有解释它到底为什么能social。

Passage 23

Passage 25 谈自尊

Q1: 154页第四题,我判断是ng,答案是f,为什么?对应原文152页第二段第四行开始high self-esteem跟physical attractive有关系,跟分数高没关系。而分数高也会带来很多的physically attractive.所以我觉得题干混淆了两种关系。我给的答案是ng 。因为分数高和high self-esteem的关系我在原文找不到。high self-esteem 和physically attractive 和high score。如果关系都成立,那么也应该是t,怎么判断的意思相反或者是关系驳斥?

A: 第四题对应的文章第五段最后一句话;modern efforts have, however, cast doubt on the idea that higher self-esteem actually induces students;现代的工作研究对higher self-esteem真的能提高学生的表现提出质疑。

Q2: 还有154的第十题,我觉得traning course 等于exercise 对应原文最后一段最后两句话

A: 第十题原文这里的exercise是指的体育锻炼。文章最后一句话说的是,没有证据显示任意地让现如今的儿童和成人提高自尊心(让他们随心所动,任意而为)对社会的带来的补偿性的好处能超过那些参加体育锻炼的人;题干说的是通过训练课程人们可以提高自尊。

Passage 26 吉尔伯特与磁场

Q1: 160页第二题

A:第二题指南针是中国人发明的不是阿拉伯人

Q2:160第三题是不是yank out iron nails and fittings就判断出是wreck ship

Passage 29 电子书

Q: 问一下29篇文章的第1题和第8题是怎么选出来的?h段哪里说virtual library的事了?

A: 第一题对应原文A段中间that paper is only the latest in a long line of reading "tec"thar were made obsolete each time an improved solution emerged

第八题题干中的on the horizon的意思是即将到来的意思,H段第一句话就说了电子书将会彻底改变

我们的经济和工业接下来讲的都是将要产生的效应virtual libraries=ebooks

Passage 35

Passage 40 龙涎香

Q: 247第3题哪里能看出heavier

A: 第三题在原文中只能看到龙涎香很轻。据此勉强推测出琥珀更重。本题不严谨,再版时会改成much lighter。

Passage 49 厄尔尼诺

第10题答案漏印,标准答案为C。

Passage53 旅行游记

Q: 问下passage 53的第4和第5题填muslim merchants 和colonial subjects可以么?

A:第四题在第三段的第二行末尾。4题勉强可以,但是不光是商人旅行吧所以勉强

第六题对的应该是particularly in Asian and African colonies they established这半句;因为setup=established.

【雅思真经派读写互通理论】 长难句理解 经典句型背诵 剑8 1.1 The revolutionary aspect of this new timekeeper was neither the descending weight that provided its motive force nor the gear wheels (which had been around for at least 1,300 years) that transferred the power; it was the part called the escapement. 1.3 Some researchers say the results constitute compelling evidence that telepathy is genuine. Other parapsychologists believe that the field is on the brink of collapse, having tried to produce definitive scientific proof and failed. Sceptics and advocates alike do concur on one issue, however, that the most impressive evidence so far has come from the so-called ‘ganzfeld’ e xperiments, a German term that means ‘whole field’. 2.2 The Little Ice Age was far from a deep freeze, however; rather an irregular seesaw of rapid climatic shifts, few lasting more than a quarter-century, driven by complex and still little understood interactions between the atmosphere and the ocean. 2.3 While it is true that the olfactory powers of humans are nothing like as fine as those possessed by certain animals, they are still remarkably acute. 3.3 It follows from the above that sparing use of energy reserves should tend to extend life. 3.1 Discussion now centres on whether the route through the maze is communicated as a 'left-right' sequence of turns or as a 'compass bearing and distance' message. 3.3 Forests are one of the main elements of our natural heritage. The decline of Europe's forests over the last decade and a half has led to an increasing awareness and understanding of the serious imbalances which threaten them. 4.2 The MSC has established a set of criteria by which commercial fisheries can be judged. 4.3 It was found that children from the noisy schools had higher blood pressure and were more easily distracted than those who attended the quiet schools. Moreover, there was no evidence of adaptability to the noise. In fact, the longer the children had attended the noisy schools, the more distractible they became. 剑6 1.2 Theoretically, in the world of trade, shipping costs do not matter. Volatility Kills You should spend about 20 minutes on Question 1-13 which are based on Reading Passage below. A Despite gun battles in the capital of Chad, rioting in Kenya and galloping inflation in Zimbabwe, the economics of sub-Saharan Africa arc, as a whole, in better shape than they were a few years ago. The World Bank has reported recently that this part of the continent experienced a respectable growth rate of 5.6 percent in 2006 and a higher rate from 1995 to 2005 than in previous decades. The bank has given a cautious assessment that the region may have reached a turning point. An overriding question for developmental economists remains whether the upswing will continue so Africans can grow their way out of a poverty that relegates some 40 percent of the nearly 744 million in that region to living on less than a dollar a day. The optimism, when inspected more closely, may be short-lived because of the persistence of a devastating pattern of economic volatility that has lingered for decades. B “In reality, African countries grow as fast as Asian countries and other developing countries during the good times, but afterward they see growth collapses,” comments Jorge Arbache, a senior World Bank economist. “How to prevent collapses may be as important as promoting growth.” If these collapses had not occurred, he observes, the level of gross domestic product for each citizen of the 48 nations of sub-Saharan Africa would have been a third higher. C The prerequisite to prevent the next crash are not in place, according to a World Bank study issued in January. Is Africa's Recent Growth Robust? The growth period that began in 1995, driven by a commodities boom spurred in particular by demand from China, may not be sustainable, because the economic fundamentals—new investment and the ability to stave off inflation, among other factors—are absent. The region lacks the necessary infrastructure that would encourage investors to look to Africa to find the next Bengaluru (Bangalore) or Shenzhen, a November report from the bank concludes. For sub-Saharan countries rich in oil and other resources, a boom period may even undermine efforts to institute sound economic practices. From 1996 to 2005, with growth accelerating, measures of governance—factors such as political stability, rule of law, and control of corruption—actually worsened, especially for countries endowed with abundant mineral resources, the January report notes. D Perhaps the most incisive analysis of the volatility question comes from Paul Collier, a longtime specialist in African economics at the University of Oxford and author of the recent book The Bottom Billion. He advocates a range of options that the U.S. and other nations could adopt when formulating policy toward African countries. They include revamped trade measures, better-apportioned aid and sustained military intervention in certain instances, to avert what he sees as a rapidly accelerating divergence of the world’s poorest, primarily in Africa, from the rest

To what extent do you agree or disagree? In recent years, an interesting trend has emerged. Countries with long histories and rich cultures have been modernizing the quickest, especially in terms of architecture. Many have criticized this as not respecting traditional culture. While traditional architecture should be protected, however, I feel it is not necessary to stop building modern structures as we move forward. One reason for this is that modern buildings are more practical and comfortable to live and work in. While traditional buildings might look nice from the outside, they are often not very user-friendly. Modern buildings usually have lots of windows and light and are clean and energy efficient. Surely this will make those inside them happier. Another point to consider is that modern buildings will give a good impression to those visiting from abroad. Consider Beijing during the Olympics, for example. Many foreigners were surprised to see all of the stunning new building designs. In the long run, this will probably attract more business and tourists to the country. Of course, traditional architecture still has its value. Everyone loves visiting famous historical places and admiring architectural styles from throughout history. We should protect and appreciate such places for future generations, but at the same time, we don’t have to live in the past. Ultimately, each city needs to find its own balance between “old” and “new” when it

This book is underpinned by a scientific methodology, integrating reading skills and vocabulary building, and unveilling the real tests. 【解析】 Reading Passage 1 冰箱 5. safer=better,took over=alternatives,所以答案是Freon。 6. 注意inventing=patented Reading Passage 2 诺贝尔 3. 判断填形容词。不能填Explosive,因为炸药都要爆炸,所以爆炸不是炸药的风险。可控的、安全的爆炸才是问题。对应原文15页第5行:the safety problems。注意到safety名

雅思阅读真经

INTERNALTIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING SYSTEM ACADEMIC READING TEST 1 TIME ALLOWED: 1 hour NUMBER OF QUESTIONS: 40

READING PASSAGE 1 You should spend about 20 minutes on Questions 1 – 13 which are based on Reading Passage 1 below. IMPROVING READING SPEED It is safe to say that almost anyone can double his speed of reading while maintaining equal or even higher comprehension. In other words, anyone can improve the speed with which he gets what he wants from his reading. The average college student reads between 250 and 350 words per minute on fiction and non-technical materials. A "good" reading speed is around 500 to 700 words per minute, but some people can read a thousand words per minute or even faster on these materials. What makes the difference? There are three main factors involved in improving reading speed: (1) the desire to improve, (2) the willingness to try new techniques and (3) the motivation to practice. Learning to read rapidly and well presupposes that you have the necessary vocabulary and comprehension skills. When you have advanced on the reading comprehension materials to a level at which you can understand college-level materials, you will be ready to begin speed reading practice in earnest. Understanding the role of speed in the reading process is essential. Research has shown a close relation between speed and understanding. For example, in checking progress charts of thousands of individuals taking reading training, it has been found in most cases that an increase in rate has been paralleled by an increase in comprehension, and that where rate has gone down, comprehension has also decreased. Most adults are able to increase their rate of reading considerably and rather quickly without lowering comprehension. Some of the facts which reduce reading rate: (a)limited perceptual span i.e., word-by-word reading; (b)slow perceptual reaction time, i.e., slowness of recognition and response to the material; (c)vocalization, including the need to vocalize in order to achieve comprehension; (d)faulty eye movements, including inaccuracy in placement of the page, in return sweep, in rhythm and regularity of movement, etc.; (e)regression, both habitual and as associated with habits of concentration (f)lack of practice in reading, due simply to the fact that the person has read very little and has limited reading interests so that very little reading is practiced in the daily or weekly schedule. Since these conditions act also to reduce comprehension increasing the reading rate through eliminating them is likely to result in increased comprehension as well. This is an entirely different matter from simply speeding up the rate of reading without reference to the conditions responsible for the slow rate. In fact, simply speeding the
