摘 要:商务英语信函作为外贸活动中一种相互交流的载体,是影响达成贸易的关键所在。提高我国外贸商务英语信函翻译,有利于加强我国与国外公司的相互交际能力,促进双方的贸易往来。本文通过对外贸活动中商务英语信函翻译的基本特征和写作特点的分析,提出相应的方法和建议。关键词:商务英语 信函 翻译中图分类号:F724 文献标识码:A 文章编号:1005-5800(2012)03(c)-231-02随着我国加入WTO 以来,就加快了于世界经济一体化的进程,我国也有越来越多的企业加入世界经济竞争过程中,同时也吸引了许多国外企业到我国来投资。随着与国外贸易的增加,作为外贸交易的主要工具的商务英语信函,也越来越被许多企业所关注。商务英语信函是国际企业相互间的一种交流的语言,是在贸易洽谈、达成协议、履行合同等都起到了非常重要的作用。商务英语信函不仅是贸易中的买卖双方的一种信函、邮件,还是企业形象、水平、实力的展现。好的商务英语信函可以推动双方贸易、提高经济、拉近交流等发挥着不可低估的效果。在全球一体化的进程里,国际间的贸易日趋平凡,商务英语信函成为沟通买卖双方,交流双边贸易起到了决定的作用。由于受到国际企业竞争、文化背景、语言等因素,使得国际间的贸易或多或少的都受到了影响,要想消除这种影响就需要好的商务英语信函翻译,这就需要企业对外贸易的商务人员,要熟练的掌握商务英语的同时,还要对其贸易的流程熟悉,不仅可以准确快速的翻译,还要给交易方留下良好的印象,要从心里重视起翻译工作,了解双方公司情况,加强交际能力等,这样才能实现经济效益的最大化,对推动企业的对外贸易起到积极的作用。

1 商务英语信函的定义

商务英语就是在对外贸易中所用的专业英语,现在的商务英语主要应用于对外的贸易中,它与日常的英语不一样,有自己独特的风格。在商务英语中主要包括了信函来往、汇票保函、商品信息、商务信息、商务谈判和贸易合同等,而贯穿整个贸易活动的是信函来往,不仅使双方了解有关贸易信息,也促进了贸易的成功起到了决定作用。商务英语信函在贸易商务活动中采用英语来交流,将商业活动的信息用纸、电传、电子邮件等相互沟通。作为世界通用语言之一的英语,已被许多国家所认可,并成为国际商务活动中的重要语言,在全球一体化的进程里,商务英语信函已经成为国际间相互贸易与谈判、交易的重要工具。在外贸活动中,由于文化背景、地域差异、交流方式等原因,都会使交易的双方产生分歧,影响正常的国际贸易,导致交易失败。因此需要建立规范的商务英语信函,以提高贸易活动、促进双方相互交流起到了决定的作用。随着科技的发展,国际贸易的广泛,商务英语信函的内容也将越来越全面,更符合现代外贸活动的需要。

2 商务英语信函的基本特征

随着国际间的贸易交往的广泛,商务英语信函的应用也越来

越被人们所重视,从双方贸易洽谈、达成协议,到履行完合同都始终离不来商务英语信函。与普通的信函不一样的是,商务英语信函主要是用于外贸的商务活动,在书写上要简洁,内容要明确,需要达到高效率的信息交流,来实现贸易活动的成功。在书写上商务英

方向、准确的把握交易方心里、礼貌的用语、具体的贸易活动等这些原则,在外贸活动中商务英语信函的基本特征包括两点:商务英语信函文体准确规范和语言简洁清晰。

(1)商务英语信函文体要准确规范。在进出口贸易活动中商务英语信函始终贯彻其中,涉及到了许多方面如:银行、海关、物流、法律等,许多都需要专业部门和专业的相关知识,所以在商务英语信函的书写文体上,就需要我们用专业的格式,规范书写。商务英语信函在内容上,需要礼貌用语、准确表达,要使用专业规范的语言,准备表达内容,不可以用含糊不清的语句;在用到may be 数字之类的词时,一定要精准、精确,要熟悉了解贸易商务中的专业术语;要在书写上尊重商务贸易的对方,应用礼貌术语进行书写;要以贸易对方的需求为主,关注对方的观点和意见,让对方感觉到你的诚意和诚信,为贸易的扩展提供有力的机会,以达到双方期待的商务贸易。

(2)商务英语信函要语言简洁清晰。商务英语信函在语言上需要有完整的语言表达,不仅需要将贸易具体说明,也要语言简洁。商务英语信函在格式上要应用专业的格式完整表达,在内容上要具体,用词要准确。商务英语信函在书写内容上,要多应用专业语言,如涉及到了专业部门如:物流、海关、商检等都要应用其专业术语。在用词上要少用修饰词汇,要直接切入主题,避免寒暄客套这类的语句。商务英语信函语言使用上要用词规范、内容有序、简洁清晰的特点。

3 商务英语信函的写作特点

外贸活动中商务英语信函翻译要想准确,就需要我们了解商务英语信函的写作特点。商务英语信函不同于普通信函,如论是在表达上、格式上、语言上等都需要有专业的写作要求。要体现语言简洁清晰、文体要准确规范、表达上要大方得体。就需要商务英语信函的写作遵守五个C 原则,就是要Correctness 、Conciseness 、Clarity 、Concreteness 、Courtesy ,也就是我们通常所说的正确、简洁、清楚、具体、礼貌这五项。商务英语信函在格式上是非常固定的,不过比普通的信函要正式和严肃。Heading 就是信函结构的开头,也就是信函的信头,一般情况是发信人的地址和日期,现在为了简便,许多公司都直接把公司的地址、姓名、电话等重要信息印在信纸上,这样即方便也比较规范。要在信函上编写号码或日期,这样在以后的查询中比较方便快捷。Inside address 是信封内的地址,需要写收信人的地址和姓名,要在信笺的左上方书写,其格式和信头相同,在写地址时候一并将收信人的姓名写上。Reason 也就是信函的理由或主题,这时候就可以直接书写其信函的重点,就需要我们把握好几个原则:简明扼要的说明信函的重点、要准确的叙述、用尊重的词语、有清晰的语言、内容叙述一目了然、称呼要到位

函,也需要略加一些客套的词语,如希望来信函答复、咨询等,结尾语要与正文分开,需要另起一段。Complimentary close 也就是我们通常说的结束语,这个与结尾语是不同的,是用来结束信函,要与开头的称呼相对应,要下隔一行,第一个字母要大写,在后面加上逗号,如Best Regards ,、Yours Truly ,。最后在从新起一行签上写信人的姓名和职位。通常要亲笔签名,这样可以表示信件很重要,需要本人亲自过目。如信函中有附件,需要在下角注明Encl 。整个信函要书写规范、字迹清楚、格式布局要合理、语言规范礼貌、内容简明扼要等这些都是商务英语信函的写作特点。

4 商务英语信函翻译要准确传达原文信息

外贸活动中商务英语信函作为外贸商务关系的凭证,在某种意义上是具有法律效力,所以需要我们在翻译过程中,要深入透彻的理解原文,更好的把握其内容,准确的了解其内在的意思,清晰完整的将信函翻译,这样才能在外贸商务活动中发挥其重要的作用。这就需要我们在翻译时,仔细的了解其信函的具体细节,比如货物的价格、数量、到货日期等这样的专业用语,在翻译时一定要准确,不可以有任何疏忽大意。如:So if youshould reduce your price by ,say ,10%,we might come to terms 。我们就可以翻译成:所以如果贵方肯降低10%的要价,我们可能达成交易。这样的翻译表达的并不清楚,如果我们翻译成:故请对方能够同意降低货物价格,比方说10%,这样我们或许能成交。这样就可以准确的表达原信函的真实意思,也可以将贸易顺利的进行。准确传达原文信息,就需要我们在翻译的时候正确使用规范的专业术语,要了解其在国际贸易中的惯例和约定,这些都是在长期贸易实践中产生的一些专业用语,在很多时候这些语句都以缩略语的形式出现,在翻译的过程中一定要保证这些缩略语规范使用,这样我们才能真正准确的将外贸活动中商务英语信函翻译过来,确保信函内容准确传达原文信息,为以后的商务活动奠定基础。

5 商务英语信函的翻译要求

外贸活动中商务英语信函翻译,就是要用简洁的语句来传达其信函的内容,不需要什么华丽的文字,而是要讲究实际的应用,这样就需要我们在翻译的过程中既要熟练掌握其相关的专业用语,也要尽可能的表达原有的意思,在外贸活动中商务英语信函翻译要求上需要遵循以下几点:

(1)专业准确的词汇。在外贸活动中商务英语信函翻译过程中,需要我们尽可能的使用专业术语来表达其信函的内容,尽量少的用修饰词语,要用简短清晰的文字来表述要翻译的内容,在整个翻译过程里不要添加其个人感情色彩在里面。在用汉语翻译时候,要英语和汉语相互对照,这样可以根据不同的语言差别进行合理的处理,如果在信函里英语出现了重复的语句,不需要全面重复翻译。如信函中solicit the preference of your order ,可以翻译为恳求,而不是请求您的订单,your kind inquiry ,应翻译为对您亲切的慰问。

(2)精炼明确的语句。在外贸活动中商务英语信函翻译过程中,都使用一般比较固定的语句,在信函开头和结尾处都有比较通用的模式。在商务英语信函的开头一般都是:Dearsirs,we have obains your name and address ,这类的句子构成,在结尾一般都是:Yours faithfully/sincerely ,后面加上个人签名,这样的模式。在整个信函的翻译过程里,需要我们用简短的语句来取代那些难以

琢磨的词汇,尽量做到简洁明快如:though 这个词就可以用despite 来代替。需要整段句子进行翻译的时候,就要求我们正确理解其句子包含的内容,要前后语句相互连接,来推敲其内在的含义如:Thanks you ’reyour mail.As for the copy of CE and SAA,I will fax them to youwith in these two days ,如果为我们直接去翻译本句可以理解为用两天的时间传真材料,可仔细推敲可以发现,其中的实际含义是I ’lladvise you the exact fax time once con ? rmation ,这就需要我们在商务英语信函翻译过程中要随时注意,仔细理解其中的意思在进行翻译。在翻译的过程中要力求还原其信函真实性,要依据信函本身的内容来确定其要表达的真实想法和意思,就像We will in Guangdong to offer you 2000m3Lumber 这样的语句,我们可以根据在商务英语信函的专业术语来翻译,offer 可以理解为报盘,这里就不能理解为过去那种传统的文学含义了。像Your close cooperation in this trade will be highly appreciated 这样的语句,close 就要翻译成密切,而不是关闭的意思。可以这样说,在外贸活动中商务英语信函翻译过程中我们要遵循,利用合理的思路逻辑,来贯穿整个信函的内容,这样才能清晰准确的来表达其信函真实的意思。

随着全球一体化进程的加快,不同国家间的贸易日益增多,商务英语信函成为整个贸易中不可缺少的一部分。无论是在人际交流还是贸易交往的过程中,外贸商务英语信函都发挥着重要的作用。在国际贸易日趋广泛的今天,我们要与时俱进,提高我国外贸商务英语信函翻译水平,加强我国与国外的交际交流能力,让商务英语不仅促近各国的相互贸易,也成为增进国际交往的桥梁。
